CentOS 6 installs by default with networking disabled. Why? Who knows. Look in the upper right corner of the screen for an icon which looks like two PCs with a red X. Right click on it check [X] Enable Networking. If that fixes the problem, right click on the icon and Edit Connections. Select the Wired connection (probably System eth0) and Edit... Check [X] Connect automatically.

If that does not fix the problem or if networking is already enabled... Try changing the network connection for the VM to Bridged (provided you have a router or other DHCP service on your network). I always use Bridged for VMWare VMs and have not had any networking issues.
