Samba home directory share issues from Windows 10

Post by kev833 » 2020/05/28 04:11:27

My setup:
Windows 10 Home laptop
Centos 6.5 laptop
Centos 6.8 laptop

Both Centos 6 laptops are running Samba 3.6.23.nn. From Windows I can connect to both Centos laptops through [SHARE] which maps to /tmp on both laptops. I also setup [Homes]. The user account on Windows is kevind and this account also exist on both Centos laptops (uid = 503). There is a second account on the Centos laptops called kevin (uid =500).

When I connect to the Centos 6.5 laptop the [Homes] share is listing the kevin (uid = 500) home directory. This is wrong.
When I connect to the Centos 6.8 laptop the [Homes] share is listing the kevind (uid = 503) home directory. This is right.

This command on Windows displays the SID which I guess is the same as the UID in Linux. But this output appears to map kevind to 1001
C:\Users\kevind>WMIC useraccount get name,sid
Name SID
Administrator S-1-5-21-3575654715-4111058308-1713361400-500
DefaultAccount S-1-5-21-3575654715-4111058308-1713361400-503
Guest S-1-5-21-3575654715-4111058308-1713361400-501
kevind S-1-5-21-3575654715-4111058308-1713361400-1001

I have no problems browsing or writing files into the [Homes] shares. It's just the Centos 6.5 laptop is listing and connecting to the wrong home directory. Can this be corrected? Is it a Windows issues?

Neither CentOS 6.5 nor 6.8 is safe to run. Both are ancient and out of date and badly in need of yum update to get them to the only supported and secure CentOS 6 which is 6.10. CentOS 6.5 is from late 2013 so is now over 6 years out of date. CentOS 6.8 is from 2016 so "just" 4 years out of date. Both are missing all security updates released in the last 4 years and more.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Fixed. Edit Windows 10 credential manager values.
