No Internet Connection on VMware CentOS 6.5

Post by opencentos » 2016/02/27 23:37:05

Hi Everyone,

This is my first question on the Forum :)
So, lets get started...

I installed CentOS 6.5 on VMware Workstation, I had no problem in all steps (I followed a video tutorial) but when it comes to the Internet Connection, I'm not able to use it.
You can take a look at the attached image (Network Connections), It might help.

Thank you for your help.

Use a bridged connection and follow the instructions in the FAQ.

I changed the content of my ifcfg-eth0 file :

Code: Select all

DEVICE=eth0
TYPE=Ethernet
UUID=e70100dd-718f-4c13-b8b7-5a0a29cae7ed
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLLED=no
BOOTPROTO=static
HWADDR=00:0C:29:CC:9B:5D
IPADDR=192.168.2.10
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
PREFIX=24
GATEWAY=192.168.2.1
DNS1=8.8.8.8
DEFROUTE=yes
IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=yes
IPV6INIT=no
NAME="System eth0"
I restarted my network using :

Code: Select all

service network restart
I got this result :

Code: Select all

Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: Determining if ip address 192.168.2.10 is already in use for device eth0...
                                                           [  OK  ]
But I still have no access to internet connection.

I also have this message : Device not managed

Are the IP addresses correct for your network?

Most likely you should be using dhcp-assigned addresses instead of static IP addresses.

In VMWare, is the network for the guest set to bridged or NAT?

I followed a video tutorial to Install CentOS 6.5 and the instructor used Static IP Addresses (He will install Hadoop on it, so I think he needs to work a cluster of machines which the IP Addresses are known).

1 - I'm connected to a Wifi
2 - I'm using bridged network :

3 - My Computer IP Addresses :

4 - How it looks like my guest machine (CentOS 6.5) Network configuration :

(I'm new to Linux)
Thank you for your support.

Your host is on 192.168.1 and your guest on 192.168.2 and this is wrong. With a bridged network you should be using ip addresses from the same subnet on both host and guest so in your case, everything should use addresses in 192.168.1.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
