Gcc version in 6.2

Post by rajesh1978 » 2019/12/10 06:39:04

I wanted to know, if we can have gcc 7.4 in centos 6.2.

If yes please provide the steps to install and removing older gcc.

https://www.softwarecollections.org/en/ ... toolset-7/
And you really, really should run yum update to get CentOS 6.10.

Furthermore, you will not remove the system's gcc. The SCL version can and must co-exist.

sudo yum install devtoolset-7-toolchain
skips less essential bits that the devtoolset-7 metapackage pulls in.

There is also devtoolset-8-toolchain for gcc-8.

If you truly still have CentOS 6.2, then you haven't applied any security patches that have been released after June 2012. That is awfully long time and many serious security issues have been found (and patches released) since then.

Running CentOS 6.2 is insane. Do not do it.

All of CentOS 6 now has less than one year of life left so you should be planning to migrate to a newer version. I'd recommend starting to plan to migrate your ancient insecure system to a newer o/s ASAP.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
