CentOS

Hi,

I'm using CentOS 6.9 and I want to upgrade the package snd-usb-audio of ALSA because offer improvements in audio latency times.
I know that the latest version of ALSA are included in the kernel, but for grounds of my project, I can't upgrade my CentOS version.

Is there any way for update this package from source or something similar?

snd-usb-audio is a kernel module so it's not an alsa upgrade you want but a kernel update.

Realistically, expecting the latest and greatest of anything on an operating system that was released nearly 9 years ago might be a bit much. CentOS 7 came out "only" 5 years ago and has newer everything. CentOS 6 has about 18 months of life left so you will need to move eventually so perhaps it's time to do so before you actually have to.

ELRepo ship a kmod-alsa-1.0.24 for CentOS 6 and that supplies a newer /lib/modules/2.6.32-220.el6.x86_64/extra/alsa/snd-usb-audio.ko than the distro.

Oh, and also, 6.9 is old and out of date - you need to yum update to 6.10 which has been out for about a year now.
