This has me pulling out hair!
I have CentOS6 running on bare metal, have installed the tigerVNC, can connect to it from any windoze pc with no issues at all.
I have another box running VMware (ESXi 5) on which I installed CentOS6 as a guest (VM). I have installed tigerVNC on this as well. When I attempt to connect to this VNC from any client, all I get is a blank window. In the window the spinning circle (hour glass replacement) can be moved around the screen with the mouse, but there is nothing useful on the display.
The logs in the .vnc directories of the 2 respective machines are nearly identical. The one that does NOT work contains this line:
Xlib: extension "VMWARE_CTRL" missing on display ":1.0".
I cannot find any reference to this anywhere.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to correct this?
My thanks in advance and best regards.

Did you install the VMwware guest tools? Try without.
