Package repos for home using: emesene, gftp, audacious, smplayer, vlc, ogmrip, soundconverter

Post by snooptux » 2011/08/13 09:23:19

Hi all

Im experienced in more kind of linux: fedora, debian , ubuntu, opensuse.
I bought a new machine : intel pentium i3 3,1ghz 2gb ram intel D61 motherboard and ati hd5450 video card.

I like the only stable distros, but my new pc (new hardwares) causes that i must to try weaker distros,
fedora 15, ubuntu 11.04 is rather instable ,but earlier distros isn't supported my ethernet card of my motherboard.

Cent Os 6 seems the best choice stable enough and fully support my motherboard, but i would like to add extra repositories but not found right repository, which contains these packages:

audacious, gftp, amsn, emesene, smplayer, vlc, sun java plugin, ogmrip, soundconverter.
audacity avidemux.

Another question: is the radeonhd ati driver (novell developed suse driver) exist for Cent Os 6?

The skype and adobe flash player (fedora version rpm package) work are well.

I hope that, you could me help. ;-)

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Please see the recommended reading for new users linked in my signature.

Please read about Installing Software and Repositories. Note the warnings and advice about installing and configuring the yum priorities plugin. Non-core repos should have a higher numeric value, which is a lower priority. Lower is "better" as in golf scores.

See also TipsAndTricks/MultimediaOnCentOS and HowTos/JavaRuntimeEnvironment.

At least some of the packages you list are available from RPMforge repo, so I'd start with that one. For ATI graphics ELRepo has the latest drivers in kmod-fglrx.
# yum --noplugins --showduplicates --enablerepo \* --disablerepo \*-source,\*-debug\*,remi\* list \
audacious gftp amsn emesene smplayer vlc ogmrip soundconverter
...
Available Packages
audacious.i686 2.4.5-1.el6 atrpms
audacious.i686 2.5.1-1.el6 atrpms-bleeding
gftp.i686 2:2.0.19-4.el6.rf rpmforge
smplayer.i686 0.6.8-1.el6.rf rpmforge
smplayer.i686 0.6.9-4.el6 atrpms
soundconverter.noarch 1.4.4-1.el6.rf rpmforge
soundconverter.noarch 1.5.4-1.el6.rf rpmforge
vlc.i686 1.1.5-2.el6.rf rpmforge
vlc.i686 1.1.6-1.el6.rf rpmforge
vlc.i686 1.1.8-1.el6.rf rpmforge
vlc.i686 1.1.9-1.el6.rf rpmforge
vlc.i686 1.1.9-69.el6 atrpms
vlc.i686 1.1.10-71.el6 atrpms
vlc.i686 1.1.11-1.el6.rf rpmforge
vlc.i686 1.1.11-72.el6 atrpms
Be particularly careful if enabling multiple 3rd party repos. ATrpms, EPEL, and RPMforge are mutually incompatible without careful attention to repository priorities and use of includepkgs= and/or exclude= directives.

If more help is needed then please provide more information about your system by running "./getinfo.sh" and showing us the output file.

Thank you for your quick reply very much.
I have a new question :)
Is available a repo for sun java web browser plugin?

I try to follow steps in more how to's but the java plugin is not visible here about:plugins nor in the working.

I download the original sun java plugin i was make executable then i try to run ./sunjava..... when the plugin copied succesfully but not working.
Later i make a symlink in /home/username/.mozilla/plugins but the java still not working, i later made a symlink in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins too but the java plugin still not working.

Long time ago when i used fedora the openjdk plugin didn't working too , i met same problem.
The openjdk webbrowser plugin not working in ubuntu, only the sun-java6-plugin this plpugin is available in non-free repo is exist similar repo?

Waitng for your or somebody's reply.Thanks. :-)

It is not possible to guess exactly where you have gone wrong from the information provided, but I can assure you (based on extensive testing and reports by multiple users) the procedure documented in the JRE Wiki article does work if followed carefully. It sounds from your description of trying to run the plugin from the current working directory and making links in the home directory that you did not do so.

This is the perfect solution for the java plugin. I paste it i help to others too.

Java i386 JRE and plugin

Download Linux RPM (self-extracting file) jre-6u26-linux-i586-rpm.bin from java.com then as root install and configure the alternatives system and plugins:

# cd [download directory]
# sh ./jre-6u26-linux-i586-rpm.bin
# alternatives --config java
There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.
Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk/bin/java
2 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number:

Note number of versions, N, and use N+1 (if there is no output from the previous command, just imagine that N=0) - For example, if 2 versions were installed then:

# alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/java/latest/bin/java 3
# alternatives --config java
There are 3 programs which provide 'java'.
Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk/bin/java
2 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java
3 /usr/java/latest/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 3
# java -version
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

Create links in the Mozilla Plugins directory so Java will work in supported browsers such as Firefox.

# cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
# ln -fs /usr/java/latest/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so

Skip to the section on testing the browser plugin.

Just grab them from Fedora's koji and rebuild what you want. Just keep things like python2 vs python3 rolling in the back of your mind. Personally I'd stick to RPM Fusion and rebuild what you need because ATRPMS and RPMForge aren't compatible. For ex., a rebuild of minitube 1.5 from koji will die when launched if you're blindly grabbing from ATRPMs & RPMForge . Just my $0.02. But yeah I've rebuilt most of them already. x86_64.

I fail to see the point of copying/pasting from the JRE Wiki article.

Rolling your own packages may be a good solution if you have the skills, time, and energy, but Koji is the Fedora build system, not an archive. Rebuilding can get very tricky when you start trying to use later Fedora packages that have dependencies on system packages later than, or conflicting with, those in EL6.

The RPMFusion EL6 tree seems to be empty except for testing packages, and I doubt they are much different as far as mutual [in]compatibility than ATrpms and RPMforge. Finding and configuring multiple 3rd party repos is unfortunately never easy and rolling your own has different issues. I do agree that finding a repo that has most of what you need and trying to stick with it is a good approach, but that choice is likely to be different for individual needs.

Your right. I can't speak to the OPs abilities however I can toss out bone for him to follow. Wheather he does or not...? No biggie. But when searching for an srpm I have better luck with http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/. Well short of fedpkg i.e.,

Yeah RPMFusion's EL6 tree is thin but you can find & rebuild the Fedora SRPM. If you want to i.e., Good luck nonetheless.

Compatibility wise..., well what can I say but I nolonger maintain a list of excluded packages and can play something like... H.264 / AVC in Totem. But it's whatever works for you.
