Hi,
I have installed midnight commander on CentOS 6 64-bit however whenever I need to launch it nothing happens for 30 seconds or so and then the main window open up. Anyone have this issue?

Something is wrong with your DNS. Check resolv.conf and/or hosts.
Re: long delay when launching midnight commander
I just installed mc on a VMWare guest and an old Pentium 4 PC - CentOS 6 - 32 bit. It is fast as lightning. In addition to what gabrielvlasiu recommended, check and see if you have any remote resources mounted which are not on-line.
For example, I have 4 nfs exports on my server. If I mount them from the PC and then shut down the server (it is just a LARGE hard drive for backup so I do that frequently) and then I launch Gnome Commander, the program has a fit trying to read from the mount points which it thinks are active but are really dead. Perhaps Midnight Commander is doing something similar at startup.
