Game freez (2-3-4 seconds)

Post by jejedu67 » 2020/04/30 14:43:01

Hello,

I have a CentoS server with a game on it. For a few weeks now, players have been reporting freezes to me several times a day.

The problem is that these freezes are not linked to a possible cron task that is launched at these times. Indeed, sometimes a freezing occurs only 15 minutes apart from the previous one and sometimes 5 hours go by without any freezing.

I haven't made any changes to the game for several months.

I cannot find any error message.

The CPU is used at less than 50% of its capacity and the RAM at less than 25%. The hard drive is almost completely empty.

SoYouStart asked me to perform tests in rescue mode in order to check the RAM and the processor. I also had to issue SSH commands in order to retrieve various information. No test revealed a hardware problem.

However, these tests were not necessarily complete, and the person did not necessarily spend a lot of time helping me given the high number of SoYouStart customers.

I have already ping ServerIP -n 50000 from my PC in order to see if the connection is interrupted during a freezing. The ping is stable, less than 30 ms and the connection is never interrupted.

So I would like to know if you can help me in order to detect the cause of these freezes.

thank you in advance

Good evening,

Via a tcpdump I noticed a huge loss of packets during game freezes, with hundreds of TCP retransmissions. One reason I have found is that the processor is too solicited.

The processor can not be excessively stressed, there are no more than 60 connected recently while in August September October and November 2017 there were up to a hundred connected simultaneously. In addition, via the htop command I see that the 4 theads on the left are used at 30-35% and those on the right at 10-11%. The RAM is used at 2480 MB out of 15976 MB.

In addition, before having a dedicated server I was on a VPS at 9 euros from a competitor, without encountering any problems.

If you can help me it would be really nice.

thank you in advance

You're using a non-CentOS kernel that's 3.5 years old.
Could you test with the newest CentOS kernel?

Yeah, unfortunately that is not a CentOS system. It's some hybrid thing that looks like it comes from OVH. The kernel is also going on for 4 years old and will be riddled with security vulnerabilities including all of the Intel processor ones. It needs to be updated in any case and we will not support anything that isn't using a CentOS provided kernel.
