Can't SSH into vanilla minimum install

Network running OK, can ping google.com. SSH service is running, created user and added it to wheel group. Cant SSH from local machine. What have I missed?

Check /var/log/secure on the server for information.

And is this really CentOS 6 or are you in the wrong forum?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

What do you mean by this? You can't ssh from which machine to which machine?
