[SOLVED] add/remove software
[SOLVED] add/remove software
Hi,
In CentOS 5.6 I saw the application Add/Remove Software
I think it was called Pirut and works in X.
I want to start it now on my CentOS 6 , but I cannot find it.
I have a webserver install of CentOS6. So there is no X of Gnome installed.
I want to start Pirut and have it connect to a remove X-Server.
But where is it ?!
I have done yum install pirut.
Yum then installs it. But I cannot see where.
I have done updatedb and done locate pirut
No hits.
I also did locate system-config-packages
But also no luck.
Has it got a new name or something ?!
please advise.
kind regards,
NL-X

Re: add/remove software
This is quite a basic question that I am asking.
There has got to be a way to start the Add/Remove Software application from command line (even if it opens in X)...
No body that can help me ?!

Re: add/remove software
Not sure what you're looking for. You already used yum install, which would be the obvious answer.
Command line software maintenance (add/remove/update) goes through yum.
I cannot see how you would want a GUI application if you have no X.

Re: add/remove software
Pirut is the default Yum graphical front-end, and also Pup
so you can't run them with no X11,so i advice you to use yum command line ))):

Re: add/remove software
The correct answer is: gpk-application
I'm a bit a newbie, so it took me some time yesterday to find it.
Pirut seems to be no longer installed in CentOS 6, or is renamed to this.
I've got it working. It's connecting to a remote X through FreeNX.

Re: add/remove software
I've noticed add/remove software GUI in the Gnome menu, but it does not show software removed using yum as being removed. 2 different databases?
