Error message: agcolor unable to access colors. Is X running and DISPLAY set?

Post by chen199903 » 2022/11/09 10:24:48

I found a relevant answer in my previous answers: “Does it help at all to change the display colour depth to something different - e.g. if you're currently using 32 bit colour depth, did you try 16 or 24?”But I am relatively an inexperienced Linux user and I don't know how to change the color depth, hopefully someone can teach me.Thanks

Original thread seems to be viewtopic.php?t=22372 and the followup answer to that one says the real solution was to change the setting in the software you are trying to run
The answer wasn't in just changing the color setting, but activating the part of software that can live with a higher colour setting of the system (say 24 or 32 bit). The software itself should be set to 8 bit.
Not a clue where that setting might be in agcolor. Also maybe this PDF that appeared on a Google search may be relevant? http://esd.halliburton.com/support/LSM/ ... or_map.pdf
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
