Centos 5 Upgrade kernel to 5.4 or Centos With SysV

Post by ndavilam » 2020/09/26 21:38:21

Hi friends,
I would like to start a long journey with a Centos with SysVinit.
Any suggestion?
I would like to start a branch of CentOS 5.11 with New kernel or Centos 8.2 100% free SystemD.

All of CentOS 5 is long dead and needs to be buried. Please do not attempt to use it. It's been unmaintained since early 2017 and has numerous unpatched security problems. You cannot use it safely.

CentOS 6 is a few weeks away from its own death so you cannot use that either.

That leaves you with the choice of 7 or 8 and both use systemd. As an init system, systemd is way way better than any of its "competitors". As a project with feature creep and bloat it's also way ahead of everything else too but since RHEL tends to use only the init system components of it, it's mostly a good thing. Avoiding a distro just because it has systemd will leave you with a choice of about two and they're both high maintenance options so not suitable for an enterprise distro.

But thinking of using CentOS 5 for any real work, even 5.11, is insanity. Do not do it.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
