GNU RedHat Challenges
GNU RedHat Challenges
I'm just wondering if any of you people ever realize that CentOS code ever gets put into RHEL. You should be thanking them. What do you do besides take RedHat packages and redistribute them in binary format.
For example, "65%" for Fedora 12 is run by volunteers who put all the time and energy to make sure RHEL works well. Where is the justice in you stealing all of that code and redistributing it.

Re: GNU RedHat Challenges
I'm still looking for professional help on this. I have a few legalities to work out between several officials and I want to make sure CentOS is exposed.

Re: GNU RedHat Challenges
I suggest you google
"Red Hat" CentOS GPL
There are plenty of interesting and relevant results. The first hit for me is http://openenterprisenews.com/analysis/how-badly-is-centos-hurting-red-hat.html

Where is the justice in RedHat using all of that code and redistributing it? Do you think they built GNU/Linux? Is RH the creator of the Linux kernel? They have an obligation to provide the source (http://www.redhat.com/rhel/renew/faqs/#6 and even http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html). They don't have to give away everything, however! They can keep their stuff for themselves.
I for one, have choosen to use both RHEL and CentOS
EDIT: I'm confused now after reading the OP's info for the 4th time... who should be thankful? I suspect I may be more agreeing with the OP than I initially read :-o

What is the "this" that you need help with?

Re: GNU RedHat Challenges
Could you, or anyone with a direct experience in Linux, provide specific examples where CentOS code is used in other Linux distributions.

Re: GNU RedHat Challenges
Not sure why this matters. CentOS does not produce much code, but rather removes Red Hat logos and trademarks. See Purpose of CentOS and Goals of CentOS. Contributions to the upstream tend to be in the form of bug reports and sometimes patches submitted through the bug tracking system.
Re: GNU RedHat Challenges
When one has read and understood GPL, one does know that it does not matter at all, where GPL code is used.
