Re: New sftp hosted on centos7

Unless you have a good reason to change I would stick with Alan's recommendation, particularly it it works. It's a simplification, not wrong.

Re: New sftp hosted on centos7

That's a slight simplification. See the man page ssh(1) which says that there is no requirement to keep ~/.ssh secret, but then recommends 0700. The key files must be private or they will be ignored. The public versions (eg id_dsa.pub) however can be readable by anyone; personally I'd make copies el...

Re: Can I re-install CentOS without deleting data in /home?

I'll echo what others say: backup your data first. If you have a separate /home partition, then during the disk configuration in installation you have the option to amend the default configuration. Take this option and ensure that your original /home is NOT marked for format. Personally I am a bit p...

Re: upgrading old version to slightly less old version

If you have internet access you ought to be able to put an explicit version into your repolist files and update through yum. I would disable the mirror lilst in this case and check that the archived repository exists on the server. Then change (for example) "baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$...

Re: Building a local repository - What to download?

I have a similar situation, my servers are not connected to the outside world. I have a local machine that has a direct connection out and as advised use rsync to build a local copy of CentOs and EPEL. I'm considering ElRepo, but as yet haven't required it. The following code is used to download the...

Re: How to increase / partition size?

Just a thought - can you not place the tables on sda5 and either point to them directly within MySQL or else use a symlink?

Re: Method to clone/copy filesystem

Some years ago I had similar problems with the system freezing after an hour or so's use. I found that running with the windows (architectural, not software) open and a desk fan aimed at the PC delayed this. The problem was with the PSU as became apparent when it finally blew up. So, check your volt...

Re: Which ISO to download- Minimal, DVD or Everything?

Others have given some of the rationale behind the images. Look though at the sizes: 4.0G CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1503-01.iso 7.1G CentOS-7-x86_64-Everything-1503-01.iso 696M CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveCD-1503.iso 1.0G CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveGNOME-1503.iso 1.2G CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveKDE-1503.iso 636M CentOS-7-x86_6...

Re: Getting Error while Building RPM

Sorry, but as I said I'm no expert on rpm building. I was just "another pair of eyes" reading the log and trying to learn from others.

Re: Getting Error while Building RPM

I'm no expert on build_rpm, but

Code: Select all

+ rm -rf sample
might explain why

Code: Select all

+ cd sample
can't find the directory, unless of course you are expecting the unzip to recreate it.
