Re: Suggestions on backing-up VM filesystems

Both reasonable suggestions, but do be aware that option 2 will be doing an image backup of the container file. If you have a fair amount of free space on your virtual disks you will have backups full of empty space. Every time you do it the whole disk is backed up, whether changes have occurred or ...

Re: Suggestions on backing-up VM filesystems

Yep, just the same as a bare metal system.

Re: Suggestions on backing-up VM filesystems

Sorry, but you'll have to be a bit clearer. Amanda records the filesystem as part of its backup. After all /var/log/messages gives you a pretty broad hint that you need the directories /var and /var/log!

Re: Got Hacked

If you are in a big organisation your security department may prefer you not to power off, only isolate. Having an untouched system can assist in forensics. They will also prefer you not to boot so that the disks can be examined. If you are on your own though jlehtone's advice is, as usual, spot on.

Re: unable to use grep use grep command in Centos 7

Neat. It only goes to show that us "old hands" ought to re-read the simple stuff from time to time - sometimes "that's the way I've done it for 20 years" is not always the most efficient! More seriously, that is great for simple searches, but remember that find has powerful selection mechanisms for ...

Re: unable to use grep use grep command in Centos 7

Please do not use screen shots, cut and paste into a code (</>) block. Otherwise anyone trying to help you has to copy type which is liable to put people off. Now to your problem. If you do a plain: find . -type f ./copy2.txt ./copy3.txt ./test1.txt You can see that the output of the find command is...

Re: Fortran runtime error: Bad integer for item 1 in list input

You've missed out the "=" sign when setting DAY and DAYM1: bash-4.2$ cat Y #!/bin/csh -vx set DAY = (050601 050602 050603 050604 050605) foreach i (1 2 3 4 5) if ( $DAY[$i] == "050601" ) then set START = $DAY[$i]"12" else set START = $DAY[$i]"00" endif echo $START this snippet then runs fine: bash-4...

Re: Cockpit install vm centos 8 ?

In the past most of my installs have been by virtmanager, or else off the command line. I've just done the following: Downloaded the latest ISO Run Create VM changing: Name to "Test" Installation source to "/virt/ISOs/CentOS-8.1.1911-x86_64-dvd1.iso" Size to 20 GiB Memory to 4 GiB and leave the Vend...

Re: Cockpit install vm centos 8 ?

Typically you need to download the CentOS8 ISO (from http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/8/isos/x86_64/CentOS-8.1.1911-x86_64-dvd1.iso) to somewhere on your computer. When you try to create a VM from cockpit, select "Local Install Media" for the "Installation Source Type", then put the full path to...
