Re: groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" knocks out network in OpenVZ VPS

thanks for these responses, I have since learnt that a straightforward install of a desktop on an openvz vps always knocks out the network on the reboot so it's not something I was doing wrong. I'm currently looking at methods to get round this.

solved: groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" knocks out network in OpenVZ VPS

I'm running centos 7 64 bit server (command line only) on a vps which is an OpenVZ container. When I do yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" and reboot the machine hangs during the next boot and doesn't start up. From the log I see there's no network, I can get in to the hung vps via a rescue console an...

Re: centos 7 server goes to sleep

thankyou for your help on this. It seems I was incorrect about the machine going to sleep, it must have been something I was doing that caused this problem. It seems to have cleared itself up now but I don't know how (which is frustrating).

Re: centos 7 server goes to sleep

yes it seems it is a network problem. The nic is configured as dhcp. I went back to the dell780 machine and logged in and did 'systemctl restart network.service', then did 'ifconfig' and the ip address had come back. So I went to another machine and logged in using putty and the console gave this: A...

Re: centos 7 server goes to sleep

thankyou for your fast response giulix but this didn't work, the machine is still going to sleep. One other thing I noticed: When this problem happens I go to the dell780 machine itself and log in and do 'ifconfig' and the nic has no ip address, so it's as if the nic itself is going to sleep or swit...

centos 7 server goes to sleep

I'm running centos 7 server (command line only) on a dell 780 tower and the machine keeps going to sleep or standby or hibernate or whatever it is, I'm not sure which. This is a clean install of centos 7 server, there's no gui. This is puzzling because if it was a laptop I'd understand, but a deskto...

Re: mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system

Code: Select all

# uname -a
Linux <my-server>.svr 2.6.32-042stab113.11 #1 SMP Fri Dec 18 17:32:04 MSK 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I've been informed by my vps provider that my vps is an 'openvz container' but I don't know if that's relevant to the problem I'm having.

mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system

I'm running a vps with centos 6.8 64bt and I'm trying to mount a remote drive with this command (and error): # mount -t cifs -o username=<me>,password=<passwd>,uid=<me>,gid=<me> //<remote-ip>/share /media/drive2 mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system mount error(19): No such device...
