as this is a XEN VM, is there any way repair the root partition booting from installer ISO cd ?
You should be able to attach a DVD and boot from the DVD into rescue mode.

Re: Booting stuck at progress bar centos 6.8

I have never encountered this situation personally, but going off what I can find on Google, it looks like your root partition is corrupt. This page has a suggestion, which worked for one person: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?/topic/109563-dracut-error-on-boot-solved/ I was wondering if the in...

Best way to manage custom IP tables rules

I have a complex IPTables rule set which exists as a bash script on a CentOS 6 machine. I now need to bring that rule set to CentOS7. The rules are sufficiently complex that it is impractical to re-code them using native tools. The script uses variable and is commented which makes editing them simpl...

Re: out of space

Sorry but if this is a new server then you made a mistake by installing CentOS 6 on it. It's 9 and a half years old and has about 6 months of life left before all updates stop. It's not a good choice for a new install. You'd be better off with CentOS 7 (5.5 years old, 4.5 years of life left) or Cen...

Re: Is there anything better than setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH for libXaw.so.7: cannot open shared object file?

If I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/lib64, then that error goes away, but I get errors about the wrong ELFCLASS, so I'm not sure that achieved anything useful. This suggests that you have a directory in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH that is causing problems. /usr/lib64 should be searched by default. What does ...

Or get a recent version of it that _is_ supported on a recent o/s.
That presumably involves spending money, which the original poster probably trying to avoid.

I suggest that you see if it is supported on a current version of SUSE. That is likely to be the path of least resistance.

when my system turns down to sleep mode I get this window in the middle of the screen telling me there's no signal, how do I make the screen going blank? Thank you, george :|
It's the monitor that is doing this. Just wait. The monitor should go to sleep eventually.

What do you mean by this? You can't ssh from which machine to which machine?
