I see that the java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.51-1.b16.el7_1.x86_64.rpm package is currently available from the updates directory.

Perhaps just try yum install java-1.8.0-openjdk . . .

Yes.

Look at what is in your rc.local file, as that is not used in a default CentOS 7 installation.

Please let me explain. There are certain bugs than CentOS inherits from RHEL. Such bugs need to be fixed, upstream, by Red Hat. Once the bug is fixed in RHEL it then will be fixed in CentOS. Then there are bugs that originate within CentOS, bugs which are not present in RHEL. It is these latter bugs...
