General web server questions

Check out this GPL control panel:

http://www.ravencore.com/

It works quite nicely on CentOS.

yum update fails CentOS 4

Looks to me like you're having a DNS resolve problem.

Trying pinging a domain: ping centos.org

If that doesn't work, then add some of your local or ISP DNS servers to /etc/resolv.conf
example:

nameserver 192.168.47.1
nameserver 192.168.47.2
Re: CENTOS FTP Server

No additional configuration needed for your FTP server.

Internet Explorer comes with a built-in FTP program, so going to ftp://YOUR_DOMAIN_OR_IP in IE on a PC should work for you.

FireFox I believe you have to install an exention to use it for FTP. Not sure about other browsers.

Need GD support in PHP

From the command line you can run:

php -m

"gd" will be an item there if it is compiled in.

If it isn't, install the php-gd rpm package

yum -y install php-gd

Help - How do I find out which IMAP I am running

Run:
telnet localhost 143
If you connect to a running server, it normally tells you what it is. For example:
Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1). Escape character is '^]'. * OK dovecot ready. ^] telnet> quit Connection closed.
That is dove...

trying to find perl-CGI for CentOS 4.1

As far as I can tell it doesn't exist :-o

However, it looks like it comes bundled with perl itself:
[corman@ravencore ~]$ rpm -q --whatprovides "perl(CGI)"
perl-5.8.5-12.1
cyrus-sasl with sql

It probably exists, but probably isn't one of those ready made "out of box".

Try installing ravencore ( http://www.ravencore.com/ ). It handles mail users stored in a MySQL database and sets up SMTP user auth based off of postfix and cyrus-sasl.
