How to disable "you have updates" pop up window?

How do you disable the pop up window in CentOS 7 that notifies users of available updates?

I don't want any users to see that pop up - I should be the only authorized person doing updates on any of these workstations.

Re: Very slow logins specific to one user account

If anyone is interested and following this thread, the resolution turned out to be changing the default shell from /bin/tcsh to /bin/bash. Login times changed from 30-40 seconds down to 1-2 seconds. I'm still a little exasperated because I don't know *why* changing the shell would have such an effec...

Very slow logins specific to one user account

I'm having an issue with a user account that is getting very slow login/logout times over both console logins and ssh logins - between 30-45 seconds to login and/or logout. Other user accounts on the same machines don't have the same problem - maybe 1-3 second logins. The ssh logins have been tried ...

Re: Can rhnsd service be safely stopped?

I went to try disabling it on a machine to test and see what would happen, and gave a message like "Stopping Spacewalk Daemon".

That would be a show stopper, so no go - gotta tell them "can't do it"

Thanks for the inputs.

Re: Can rhnsd service be safely stopped?

Sorry, I should have noted that this is a centos 6 system.

But, while I'm at it, does it apply to centos 7 as well?

Can rhnsd service be safely stopped?

Can the rhnsd service be stopped without breaking something else?

The yum repositories are local and do not contact redhat or any public centos repositories for updates

Will it cause any issues contacting a local Spacewalk server if rhnsd is disabled?

Thanks,

OS keeps changing folder ownership to root:root

I've got a folder /data created on an LVM partition mounted in /etc/fstab as an ext4 partition with options (rw,nodev) I created a folder under /data named logs, and changed the owner from root:root to username:users with permissions of 770. The /data folder is owner root:root and permissions of 755...

Re: Mouse loses ability to copy and paste

The user sent me some more feedback:

"There seems to be a correlation between the errant clipboard/mouse behavior and when I fire up my VNC sessions. I do see a garbled display when VNC first posts the remote desktop - I didn't see this in CentOS 6"

Mouse loses ability to copy and paste

I've got a user that just received a CentOS 7 upgrade (from 6.10). He's having an issue I've been asked to troubleshoot but I haven't been able to duplicate his problem. When he first logs in, highlighting, selecting, copy/paste with his mouse works fine. After he's been working awhile, when he trie...
