Re: Overheating Over chrome and video-watching

Here's the list of sites supported by youtube-dl https://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html So it should work with mpv. I just tried a vimeo video with vlc which worked. The site you're talking about probably uses webm/vp8 or vp9 which is not supported on my intel sandybridge processo...

Re: centos 7 fresh install on virtual box

Hello I had the same problem myself recently, only with a fresh install of fedora 31. I got round it by updating in chunks I think the problem is that there are two versions of every updated package on the system until the old ones are deleted and when it's a fresh install that's a lot of updates. I...

Re: epel-multimedia repo vs rpmfusion

When I said "went dark" I meant that the maintainer has stopped updates and new packages and as you've found, ffmpeg in nux and rpmfusion are way out of date.
BTW a totally up to date static build is available here https://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/

Re: Overheating Over chrome and video-watching

is there a way to route videos to GPU ? There is here's how I do it, you'll need to install youtube-dl, mpv and libva (I think all available from rpmfusion) Add these lines to ~/.config/mpv/mpv.conf ytdl-format="bestvideo[height<=?720][fps<=?30][vcodec!=?vp9]+bestaudio/best" hwdec I have mine set t...

epel-multimedia repo vs rpmfusion

Hello since the nux repo went dark last year I decided to use the epel-multimedia repo and all was fine, till yesterday, update throws up a load of conflicts, is epel-multimedia repo a legit repo or should I go for rpmfusion ? As most (if not all) epel-multimedia packages are newer (than rpmfusion) ...

Screen brightness control very slow since update

Hello as the title says, when I press Fn + up to increase screen brightness it takes about 50 seconds to take effect, and no matter how many times it is pressed it only goes up one increment at a time. I checked with xev and the button press takes 20 seconds to be registered and another 30 to take e...

Re: Orders of magnitude slow CentOS boot up compared to Windows 10

Hello Windows 10 uses a sort of hibernate/sleep/suspend thing, I think it's called fast boot or something like that so the system is not actually off off, no idea how it works but can be a real pain if dual booting, but the upside is it appears to start up really quickly. I've got CentOS to boot in ...
