Re: Samba AD start error - help...

Ok, I think I solved this.

resolv.conf still had my ISP's DNS servers listed. I subed my samba server instead and no longer getting the errors.

Now, I just have to disable resolv.conf updating ;)

Fix for Virtualbox no GUI after updates :)

I want to post this so that if any others run into this. Problem: Installing Centos as a guest in Virtualbox runs fine. However, After updates and rebooting you have no GUI. To get back into a GUI on centos as a guest you have to boot into non GUI mode and then install the Guest Additions and then b...

Re: Samba AD start error - help...

Well, Here is what I have done so far:

Went in and located anything 'samba' and deleted it. Reinstalled samba again and ran the samba-tools (samba -i) and same errors. At the end of the errors I have :

Code: Select all

Failed DNS update - with error code 29

Samba AD start error - help...

Hello, I am learning how to setup Samba as a AD. I have Centos7 loaded in a VM and downloaded and compiled/installed samba 4.6.7 . Everything was working fine and I ran samba-tool to create the AD. Creation went fine but I must have got something wrong. There was no DNS communication on port 135 it ...

Re: Some questions on Centos7 / Samba / DC / AD

Saving bandwidth from account data ?!? Nah.. he/she just messed it up. Please keep in mind that in RHEL7.4 (and respectfully CentOS) the AD communication should be via sssd daemon. Also if all machines are Linux - consider using the FreeIPA. Kinda what I thought. Im finding this previous install wa...

Some questions on Centos7 / Samba / DC / AD

Hello, I have been tasked to setup a new server in a small company (15 or less users) which will replace a older server. This server will function as a DC / AD / File server / Exchange (icewarp instead of exchange on new server) - all on one server because of costs and being a small company. I have ...

[SOLVED]Re: Centos 7 Samba AD - Joining - access denied

I have figured out my problem. I think I now understand why samba-tool is not included in centOS 7. Samba-tool was not creating a complete smb.conf file and leaving many things out. So, I nuked samba from the system and reinstalled from the repos. Then I followed the guild here: https://www.unixmen....

Centos 7 Samba AD - Joining - access denied

I have setup a samba AD but having an issue joining a windows 7 pro to it. It keeps coming back with an error in windows as "access denied you do not have permission to join domain ". I followed the samba wiki to get this setup and all the tests from local host on the AD server complete without erro...

Re: Setting up a DNS server - problem encountered

I am very sorry.

Why is it that as soon as you give up you post about your problem and then find the stupid answer?

Configuration error in my reverse zone file. I forgot some periods in the A record.

Well there we go.

Setting up a DNS server - problem encountered

Hello, I have setup a temporary computer to learn some networking - specifically DNS and MSexchange/linux with icewarp. Everything is going fine except for setting up the DNS service. coffee1-pc.athome.net icewarp.athome.net - handles DNS and related services to IceWarp to act as a exchange server. ...
