Split desktop on external monitor

I've hooked up an external monitor to my laptop running C7. The problem I have is that Gnome extends the desktop to use the external monitor at the same resolution as the laptop monitor. Also, it is not possible to use the extended desktop without panning to the area on the laptop monitor too. This ...

Re: Install CentOS 7 from USB - fail

What did you use to make the USB installation drive? Check if the li...

Re: [SOLVED] Sticky group write permissions for folders

The step I've missed is that changing a user's group membership is not reflected until the user is logged out and in again. To workaround this if logging out the user is not convenient so to do this First add the group #sudo usermod -a -G <new group> <user> Then replace the existing shell which requ...

Re: Printer Test Page

My HP 3545 Printer was auto-detected (strangely 2 printers were detected I chose the first one) and got installed. But it can not print a Test page and move ahead. Any help ? Might be a similar issue as this https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=50701 So try turning off SELinux if it's...

Re: Intel 7265 installation

My bad for making noob mistakes. I'd assumed that doing yum update will update the existing iwl7265 driver in the system but this was not the case. Issuing the specific command to update iwl7265-firmware from CR and followed by a reboot was all that was needed to get the Intel 7265 wireless adapter ...

Re: Stuck at first boot, anyway to bypass?

Did you update to CR yet? Yes I did but it didn't change the situation so I decided to leave it alone and testing out virtualization which may have an unintended effect. After I went to sleep, the locked up problem appeared to occur again by itself likely when the laptop went into standby. This I a...

Re: Stuck at first boot, anyway to bypass?

Apparently, it isn't that the machine hung. On a hunch, I tried to SSH into the system and it was working. Ater reboot, I tried init 5 from local console and watching on remote SSH session, I could see that Xorg was stuck at 100% CPU utilization on one core and nothing was displayed on the laptop. K...

Re: Stuck at first boot, anyway to bypass?

What graphics card is in the machine? What's in /var/log/Xorg.0.log? If it's an nvidia or ATI card then perhaps the proprietary drivers from ELRepo might help. After re-install, reboot, accept license agreement, click Forward on kdump screen and machine locks up (with the 'Forward' button stuck in ...

Re: Stuck at first boot, anyway to bypass?

Did you try booting in runlevel 3 (command line only)? Yes, that's how I got around to trying to run chkconfig to disable firstboot. However, once I attempt to boot into graphical desktop, I get stuck with firstboot again. Right now, I'm trying with Fedora 21 to determine if the same problem occurs...
