Re: Disable journald logging for specific unit
I was able to finally answer this myself. I wasn't able to actually figure out how to tell journald to stop logging these messages. On a whim, I built a filter in rsyslog to drop those messages and that has worked: :msg, contains, "Starting system activity accounting tool..." stop :msg, contains, "s...

[SOLVED] Disable journald logging for specific unit
Hello, I have a system that is running sysstat to pull system stats. I have this running pretty frequently using the sysstat-collect.timer unit file. When this runs, I see these messages getting logged to /var/log/messages: Apr 21 14:57:24 localhost systemd[1]: Starting system activity accounting to...

Re: Capture client list of yum/dnf repositories
Ahhh. Okay! Thanks! That makes sense. The repo itself does not log but I do see that there's an HTTP server running, so yeah. I'll see what I have to do to monitor the logs from there to grab what I need. It's an internal repository and is just HTTP, not HTTPs. Should be straightforward from that pe...

[SOLVED] Capture client list of yum/dnf repositories
Hello, I feel like this might be a bit of a strange one since my google-fu has failed me miserably. I am also a bit of a repository management n00b. So I may not necessarily be looking in the right place for this. I am trying to figure out if there is any logging available on the repository server s...

Re: Logrotate interval for security log at /var/log/secure
The first part of that is correct. You would remove /var/log/secure from the first file and create a second file that handles the rotation the way you want it. As for testing it, you can use the "--debug" or "-d" option with logrotate which will run through all of the details but not actually rotate...

Re: openssl, sslv2 & sslv3 testing
SSL2 has been deprecated and suggested not to be used for years. I've been dealing in SSL for at least 8 years and it has been a no-no for at least that long. Probably longer, in fact. SSLv3 and TLS 1.0 have both been shown to not be secure as of maybe three years ago. Heartbleed and various other a...

Ohhhhhh, long gone are the days where you could easily mine a few btc with your home PC and it would be worthwhile.
But then again, that was also when btc were ranging $4-10 USD each.
Self-regulating systems tend to do that.

Re: unable to ping windows machines with hostname
To look up a hostname, you need some kind of resolver. Either DNS or a local file or WINS server if you wish to use that. Your DNS settings are using google for your DNS. Google will not have your local machines name to resolve. So you need to do it another way. So either you need a local DNS server...

Re: Firewalld
This is exactly what I needed to do a few weeks ago. I set my active zone to public and attached my interface to that. I removed all services from that zone. I then defined the sources I wanted to allow to ssh and the ssh service to the internal zone. Most of what I was dealing with was on C7 but fe...
