Re: Issues with installed printer and CUPS

Might those messages possibly be from machine boot-up when a driver poll for that device didn't find it connected and therefore couldn't start? (Don't know; just throwing that out there).

Re: echo -e in italics

strikeout just worked for me (I chose green) in CentOS 7

Code: Select all

echo -e "\e[9m\e[32mTest Strikeout\e[0m"
as did green italics

Code: Select all

echo -e "\e[3m\e[32mTest Italics\e[0m"

Re: correct syntax for ETHTOO_OPTS in ifcfg file CentOS7.9

I expect it's just me, but the file you posted lists ETHTOOL_OPTS, not ETHOOL_OPTS.
- just throwing that out there - in case helpful.

This shows up all the way through your code lists. Did you set some sort of filter?

Re: How to clean hacked server and add more security?

My observation is that rkhunter tends to report changes to files, whether by you or updates, etc. A 'please check the machine' (i used to get them often) does not necessarily indicate a hack. As mentioned, you need to read the log to find out why you are getting the notification. In my case, it turn...

Re: RHEL 8.3 BIOS issues chapter 2

Kernel and header compatibility is already sorted out in the link I cited. Link in above message points to Fedora Nvidia installations. That said, my Nvidia problem on all 3 machines with different cards/setups is solved, at least temporarily (we'll see!). I went to Nvidia and downloaded the driver...

Curiosity question about hdd

I have a 2TB HDD that I had installed on a machine as dual-boot. Windows 10 soon got all wonky despite RHEL 8 ran beautifully. I ran a read only disk test program and about 1/2 hour in it began accumulating read errors - a lot of them. I cancelled the test and swapped the drive for (2) 1TB drives to...

Re: How to check network interfaces

One sniffer tool to watch traffic is wireshark which you'd need to install. Another is the command line tcpdump.
