kickstart, pxe, uefi, tftp -- the grub.cfg file

I think I'm confused about what files belong to which service. Okay, according to this web page: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/em.121/e27046/appdx_pxeboot.htm#EMLCM12199 It says, in part, D.1 About PXE Booting and Kickstart Technology [snip] 6. By default, the boot image searches the pxelinux...

kickstart fails. reason is obscure.

Trying to kickstart CentOS 8. My kickstart server is working -- I kickstart a similar machine without incident. It's an Intel NUC, and I have updated the BIOS to the latest and greatest. Here's the error from anaconda. Starting installer, one moment... terminal size detection failed, using default w...

Re: What's the difference between windows10 and centos8? really about wake-on-lan

That's one wacky subject line. First, see whether your interface supports wake-on-lan (wol hereafter). You may have to install ethtool. My interface is eno1. [root@fs purewol]# ethtool eno1 Settings for eno1: Supported ports: [ TP ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100ba...

local mirror and kickstart

CentOS 8 I have a running kickstart directory, like so: /VOLUMES/www/html/KS/CentOS The contents are: [root@fs CentOS]# ls AppStream BaseOS EFI images isolinux media.repo I made this, originally, by downloading a dvd image and cracking it open. I have updated the AppStream and BaseOS directories usi...

Re: 389 server, openldap clients, Foreman

Okay, so, I'm an even bigger idiot.

The syntax I had in the previous post was wrong.

Code: Select all

# correct syntax
BASE value
URI value
and it now seems that all my sssd and certificate
gyrations were not relevant. Only ldap.conf mattered
I believe.

Sigh.

Re: 389 server, openldap clients, Foreman--Fixed.

Okay, so, I'm an idiot. After much bumbling around it looks like the magic potion was to set BASE=value URI=value in the client's /etc/openldap/ldap.conf . This I had not done previously. I thought that was settled by /root/.dsrc but, no. Unless I need both such things. So I'm making progress. I don...

389 server, openldap clients, Foreman

My 389 server is running Centos 8. For the moment I'm only planning to use the 389 server as my LDAP server. Ultimately I'm going to want to use the 389 server as the LDAP server that works with Foreman. I started down this road, hit a snag, and then, while trying to solve it I ran into stuff that w...

Re: Trying to load 389 server with users. -- WORKAROUND

Okay, I don't know all of the reasons/answers, but I have a workaround. My original ".inf" file had a blank # THIS FAILS [backend-userroot] section. If I use this # this WORKS [backend-userroot] sample_entries = yes suffix = dc=jgscrater,dc=com Now, it does take BOTH of those lines. It seems to me t...

Trying to load 389 server with users.

Centos 8 Fully up to date on patches. I'm trying to load users into the 389 server. Here's how I made it (trimming the fs.inf file for the sake of bandwidth): [root@fs ~]# dscreate create-template LDAP/fs.inf [root@fs ~]# grep -v ^# LDAP/fs.inf | grep -v ^";" | uniq [general] config_version = 2 full...

OpenLDAP -- where is slappasswd?

CentOS 8 I have all the openldap*.x86_64 packages installed rpm -qa | grep openldap openldap-2.4.46-11.el8_1.x86_64 openldap-devel-2.4.46-11.el8_1.x86_64 openldap-clients-2.4.46-11.el8_1.x86_64 But slappasswd is not on the machine. All the tutorials act like it should be here. (1) is there a way to ...
