Re: Installing XFE on CentOS 7

I managed to get it working: I downloaded the following packages from other distro rpm repositories (Fedora for fox and Suse for the lib): fox-1.6.50-5.fc23.x86_64.rpm fox-devel-1.6.50-5.fc23.x86_64.rpm libpng16-16-1.6.13-2.4.1.x86_64.rpm and installed them by hand. Next I downloaded xfe-1.40.1.tar....

Comannder like file manager

Hi folks, I cannot find gnome-commander to install in base, epel or rpmofrge.
Any suggestion on what repo to try?
Or alternatively another commander-like file manager (I'd rather avoid dolphin that requires kde runtime).

Re: My two cents on "the new Linux" -> RedHat EL7 / CentOS 7

I fully understand why Redhat is doing this, but decision was not on technical merit. Time to fork a distribution server oriented? :-}}} I think that managing a list of scripts where the the dependencies is hardcoded in the scripts themselves is no way easier, on the other side systemd has even deb...

Re: My two cents on "the new Linux" -> RedHat EL7 / CentOS 7

I am objecting about systemd because it is a "trouble maker" embedded far too close from the kernel, removing flexibility from linux, making Linux becoming another Windows. If Linux is now like Windows, why not use the original??? Let me quote from the Debian discussion on systemd adoption Sysvinit...

Re: My two cents on "the new Linux" -> RedHat EL7 / CentOS 7

My decision: No centos-7 in production within my servers pool. systemd is (and by far) too dangerous for production serveur. Our servers don't get random updates, we make baselines for the operative system as well, and we don't mess up by playing with it. RHEL 7 is perfectly fine and production rea...

Re: My two cents on "the new Linux" -> RedHat EL7 / CentOS 7

I absolutely prefer the initd style. We all face the need to learn to sort out the dependencies of the modules to start up, but I don't think a procedural script is superior to declarative configuration. Systemd is to initd , what Concorde is to B-747 I would say Systemd is to initd , what function...

Re: Dose Google Chrome support CentOS 6?

Search "google rhel 6 obsolete" in google and you'll find news about google stopping to support RHEL and hence CentOS indirectly.
What you find in google yum repos is an rpm not necessarely compatible with all the rpm based Linux variants.

Google and RHEL/CentOS obsolescence

I've read several posts of people trying to install Google Chorme that depends on the libstdc++.so.6 GLIBCXX_3.4.15, that is not included in CentOS 6.5 and RHEL. This follows the fact that Google declared RHEL 6 obsolete, since RHEL 7 is coming soon, and they needed a more recent GLIBC or other (lik...
