CentOS 5 - rpmbulid installed but unpackaged file

I have a strange one. Yes, I know that CentOS 5 is EOL (perhaps meaning I'm SOL pun intended ) but I'm asking anyway because these systems aren't going to be changed anytime soon and I must roll out a new package for them. So, I'm building a package to easily deploy an /sbin/ifup-local file to...

Re: How is group data mirrored

Others may have different opinions, but I prefer keeping my own private mirror updated with plain old rsync so I don't need to use reposync and createrepo and friends. Unfortunately, it looks like rsync isn't an option. Nothing happens when I try which leads me to the conclusion that rsync is someh...

How is group data mirrored

Hello, I've been attempting to mirror the 7.6 release to a server with my org. I've successfully done this using a mirror near my geographic location. Then, I went to install a new system using kickstart and PXE and everything is fine until it attempts to load packages. The pyanaconda module complai...

Re: Current and reliable documentation for kmod

A lot of elrepo's kmod packages use symbols not on the whitelist which defines RH's kABI. All other symbols are not covered by RH's guarantee: "Once a symbol has been introduced into the kBAI for a particular major release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux it will not be removed, nor will its meaning be ...

Re: Current and reliable documentation for kmod

I suspect that just like many of the ELRepo kmod packages, yours will be fine when updating kernels within the same point release and will break on a new one. So if you build against 7.6 then it should be fine all the way through until 7.7 comes out (or until RH accidentally break the KABI next tim...

Re: Current and reliable documentation for kmod

The whole point of RHEL's stable kernel ABI is so that you can build against one kernel and use it on another. It usually breaks on point releases and does need a rebuild and I suspect that's the issue the OP is hitting. As I've been thinking about this more, I think I'm actually hitting a problem ...

Current and reliable documentation for kmod

I am confused about kmod. I need some clarity. Trying to find current/relevant documentation is something of a fool's errand. I've referenced, heavily, the documentation found here . However, the script kmodtool discussed at that link does not look like the one installed on my 7.5 machine. I had to ...

You do know if you are trying to get kmod-nvidia it is already available and no need to "build" anything.
Yup. I'm not working with nvidia anything. I'm trying to make a kmod package for a relatively new TCP Queue discipline filter.

Re: Having problems building a kmod rpm

I think it would be better if: 1) You explained what you where trying to achieve. 2) What you *really* tried to achieve that thing. 3) What "hooks " into the kernel you are expecting. Please ask what you need...... First, I'm sorry for the terrible delay in response: other priorities at work. Secon...

Having problems building a kmod rpm

Hi everyone, I'm following the directions from the CentOS Wiki, https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/BuildingKernelModules , however, I'm unable to build the module correctly. The instruction appear to be for el5 and I am trying to get this right for el7. While building the RPM, the kernel module builds a...
