Re: CentOS8 firewall config

Thank you very much for that - it was very helpful. Following your post, I was able to get it working exactly how I'd like it to work.

By the way, Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration: http://www.webmin.com/

CentOS8 firewall config

Let me start by saying I'm not super proficient with Linux - It could probably be said that I know enough about Linux variants to be dangerous, but my main expertise is in networking, VMWare and Windows Server OSes. If I can find a concise 'how-to' for what I'm wanting to do in Linux, no problem, bu...

Eventually, maybe - but it certainly wouldn't be overnight.

Re: MySQL - NOT MariaDB

Almost ALL Linux distros now ship mariadb in preference to mysql. CentOS is not alone in this. Yes, I know - I also encountered it on Ubuntu. I posted about it here because I generally prefer CentOS for Linux applications over other Distros and that' what I'm trying to build the server on. You migh...

MySQL - NOT MariaDB

I am trying to get a LAMP server set up for a 3rd party service. Recently, it seems 'MariaDB' has 'eclipsed' MySQL for reasons I don't understand. From what I gather, MariaDB is maintained by a much smaller base, and the future is unknown. That said, the application I want to install specified MySQL...

Re: CentOS 6.3 Postfix setup

I dug around in the logs some more and found that the message that I thought was a relay was actually a bounce from a message sent to an invalid recipient on my Exchange server. Is it possible to configure Postfix to drop any messages where it gets a '5.1.1 User unknown' message from my Exchange ser...

Re: CentOS 6.3 Postfix setup

Sendmail doesn't start. I can run 'netstat -antp | grep \:25' and 'netstat -antp | grep \:27' and nothing is bound whatsoever. If I simply refresh the webmin page, the button says 'start Postfix' as opposed to 'stop Postfix'. As soon as I remove the port other then 25 and /or revert the original lin...

Re: CentOS 6.3 Postfix setup

After a bunch of serching and trial and error, I got it properly relaying mail to my domains through telnet testing. It is also accepting mail from my server and relaying it out to it's final destination. A test from mxtoolbox.net reports that it's not an open relay, which is obviously good. Now whe...

Re: CentOS 6.3 Postfix setup

(I would have edited my last post, but I can't do so any more) I did some more searching and came across some info saying to remove the remote domains from the "What domains to receive mail for" field. I did so and that fixed the 'Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table', b...

Re: CentOS 6.3 Postfix setup

Unless I'm missing something (always possible), I don't think that's it. There was nothing referencing 'localhost' (such as 'inet_interfaces'), and I added 'inet_interfaces = all' to the config, but the service won't even start. Edit: I'm not exactly sure how or why, but I got Postfix working on ano...
