Re: Internet Connection--SOLVED

I didn't give up after all, decided to reinstall and see if I can set up the internet connection then. Sure enough, in the setup there is an opportunity to turn the connection on. It worked, and now I have a beautiful Linux OS (I'm using it now to write this), with everything working just as it shou...

Re: Internet Connection

Thanks for the quick reply. I put "systemctl stop firewalld" into a terminal as root, but it recognized no such command. I have other linux OS's on this computer, and all of them connect automatically to the internet. It seems I'm not capable of configuring this one properly. I have to conclude that...

Internet Connection

I just installed the latest CentOS (7-1511, with gnome), and I can't get connected to the internet. I have tried tweaking the firewall (how do I turn the firewall off?), playing with the network connection, and everything else I can think of. I'm sending this message from another OS on the same comp...

Re: How old are you? How long have you used CentOS?

I'm 81. Does that make me the oldest CentOS user? I played around with CentOS a few years ago but settled on Puppy and Mint. Version 7 is interesting, seems stable and powerful enough for my needs.

Re: Getting into Centios 7 -- SOLVED!

Thanks again for your replies. I didn't know the name of the gnome package, so I couldn't get it with YUM. Anyway, during my re-installation I noticed that one of the default settings for for "minimal." I changed that to KDE and everything is fine now. By the way, it's not inexperience but lack of i...

Re: Getting into Centios 7

Thanks. During installation I didn't see the option of requesting a desktop installation. I'll reinstall and see how that works.

Getting into Centios 7 -- SOLVED!

I installed Centos 7 today. When I boot I get a login prompt, I login, and then all I get is a prompt from a bash shell. What's the command to access Centos 7, windows manager and all?
If this question means that I'm not qualified to run Centos, tell me that.

Re: Can't get to GUI

I downloaded the .iso marked "everything." It was over 4G, so I supposed it had everything packaged into it. Can you help me get a GUI from the command line?
