Thank you jlehtone for a GREAT write up and the link to some excellent diagrams. I will be reading, re-reading and studying the material.

Re: Translate an iptables rule to firewall-cmd

Starting with a "clean" firewall - no rules or anything applied - I examined the initial traffic, browsed a couple of pages from the subject computer and then ssh from the subject computer to the firewall computer. It appears that the INPUT, FORWARD AND OUTPUT chains were all touched. Initial: Chain...

Re: Translate an iptables rule to firewall-cmd

Thanks again jlehtone, I removed the rich rules which I had been playing with and executed the command you provided. I see the same 3 entries related to the specified IP address root@t25-magic:~# iptables -S | grep "10.42.0.13" -A FORWARD_IN_ZONES_SOURCE -s 10.42.0.13/32 -j FWDI_block -A FORWARD_OUT...

Re: Translate an iptables rule to firewall-cmd

I added the rich rule to --zone=block and found no effect. I also added it to ---zone=drop. Nothing. I finally added it to --zone=internal. The computer at 10.42.0.13 could still access the Internet. However, it could NOT ssh to the firewall computer at 10.42.0.1. The iptables rule deals with the FO...

Re: Translate an iptables rule to firewall-cmd

Thanks jlehtone, Let me reset my test machine and I will give it a try. However, I am only using the drop and internal zones (as far as I know.) And I have drop as my default zone. I will try specifying block and see what happens. If that does not do the trick I will try the other zones I am using a...

Translate an iptables rule to firewall-cmd

I have a computer with two NICs. One is connected to my DSL modem and the second to my LAN. Using the NetworkManager applet I set the second NIC to "Shared to other computers" on the IPV4 tab. Presto a simple but effective gateway/router etc. The Internet connection is in the DROP zone and the LAN c...

Re: devtoolset-8 for CentOS 8

Thanks jlehtone, I have come across appstrem but had not dug into it. Thanks for the references. My exposure to CentOS 8 to date has totaled about an hour. Most of that was to get xfce installed to give me a work environment which I could tolerate. At least I have 4 more years of CentOS 7 life to ge...

Re: devtoolset-8 for CentOS 8

Thanks TrevorH,

Tweaking CentOS 7 to use the version 8 compiler was something new to me. Let me assume that CentOS 8 has the v8 compiler available and start looking for the other bits and pieces I need. That is always a treasure hunt

devtoolset-8 for CentOS 8

I am starting to setup a build environment to compile gnome-commander for CentOS 8. According to the instructions (which I wrote) on the g-c site, I need to install among other packages devtoolset-8. On CentOS 7 this was provided from the SCL repo which was configured using centos-release-scl. There...
