Re: CentOS 8 will die and be replaced by Stream

This is bad. This is very bad. To say that I am majorly disappointed would be an understatement. Bleeding-edge rolling release Linux distributions are a dime a dozen, and the last thing this planet needs is yet another distro that breaks every other day. Goodbye CentOS, we've had a good run.

Re: CentOS 8 server swapping for no reason - why?

I've tweaked the numbers but it still doesn't make any sense. innodb_buffer_pool_size = 24G max_allowed_packet = 16M According to mysqltuner, the maximum amount of RAM used by MySQL was 27.7 GB (24 GB buffer + 215 connections * 17.4 MB) = 27.7 GB -------- Performance Metrics ------------------------...

Re: CentOS 8 server swapping for no reason - why?

Thank you so much, I completely forgot about mysqltuner. Your memory serves you right though, and I think you're on to something. MySQL allocates a fixed amount of RAM for each active connection as buffer, in my case up to 2x 64 MB (max_allowed_packet) plus 280 KB of thread stack. According to mysql...

CentOS 8 server swapping for no reason - why?

I cannot wrap my head around this. I have a CentOS 8 Server running 8.2.2004, a virtual machine with 2 CPUs and 32 GB of RAM. This server is running a MySQL 8.0 database exclusively for Bacula. There is absolutely nothing else going on on this machine. The database is configured to use up to 26 GB o...

RHEL6/CentOS 6 on an AMD EPYC server running VMware ESXi 6.5U1

We need to replace our current VMware Servers with new ones, and are currently seriously considering switching from our current Xeon servers (Sandy Bridge and even Westmere) to Dell PowerEdge R7425 AMD EPYC-based servers that will be running VMware ESXi 6.5U1 due to their higher core count and suppo...

Re: Does XFS slow down over time? What's your experience

Maybe you're on to something. I've ruled out fragmentation for the same reason before but it looks like it might actually be significant. I've checked a different backup server at a different site that has also been getting slower and slower over time: root@wrobak001$> xfs_db -r /dev/sde1 xfs_db> fr...

Does XFS slow down over time? What's your experience

So I've noticed something rather strange yesterday that I cannot wrap my head around. Some background, context, and general info: at an offsite data center we're running a Kerio Connect mailserver with a total of 250 users. Kerio's data directory is a monolithic ginormous "one directory to rule them...

hplip fails to compile

Hi there, our print server is still a CentOS 5 machine which for various reasons we cannot update to CentOS 6 or 7 anytime soon. We have a few custom printer scripts and programs running that for one reason or another do not run on anything newer than 5 for the time being. They're actually really ol...

Re: Remote Desktop, From Windows To Linux

Unfortunately freenx doesn't seem to work with Gnome3 yet and VNC is incredibly slow :D

Re: CentOS 7, Gnome3 & NX

A reply to myself: the startup command needs apostrophes to work… COMMAND_START_GNOME='gnome-session --session=gnome-classic' With that I can see the correct startup command in the process list. However, all I get is a grey "Oh no! Something has gone wrong" screen but still no Gnome3 session. This g...
