Re: Curiosity question about hdd

Is it possible that the 'dd' zeroing of the drive correctly marked bad sectors as bad - so the good areas are left? I'll probably shelve the drive for use in another non-critical machine build and was wondering in advance how much trouble I ought expect. Drives come out of the factory with a number...

Re: Java update issue

What's the output from the following:

which java
ls -la $(which java)
rpm -qa \*java\) | sort

If the output from the ls -la is a pointer to a symlink then run ls -la against that one too.

Re: [help]Unable to elevate permissions

The correct utility to use to edit the sudoers file is the visudo command. You will need to be root to run this.

Re: NewInstall and keyboard '|' missing

Dell iDRACs default to a US keyboard so many things that are in one place on a UK one produce the wrong results. You'll have to experiment to find out which key or key combinations produce the character you want but I'd try Alt-Gr and the key at the top lefthand side, just below the Esc key.

Re: Problem: conflicting requests

There are multiple perl modules available in CentOS 8 and it appears that you may have the wrong one enabled.

And yes, update to 8.4, don't use 8.1.
