Re: Inkscape in centos8 package manager
Isn't flatpak yet another instance of "make software portable by running another version of linux on top of the system OS", more or less like docker? I'm not a fan of that approach. In my experience it often made the software (much) less portable, in terms of actually being able to run "native" on d...

Re: Inkscape in centos8 package manager
Something peculiar in the linkage. After upgrading from 8.3 to 8.4 inkscape stopped working because it was linked to libpoppler.so.78 and that had been replaced by a more recent version. Making libpoppler.so.78 a link to the current version let it run, but I don't like to add links like that to syst...

Re: image to SSD
I have a CentOS7 dual boot Windows 10 spinning 2TB drive for which I just ordered an SSD 2TB drive. Both are SATA drives. My intent is to plug in the SSD and Clonezilla the spinning drive to the new SSD. My question is: will I be then able to un-plug the spinning drive, reboot - and have it all jus...

Re: Moving a CentOS 7 HDD from HP DL160 to HP DL360p
Did you physically plug the disk into that controller's SATA socket first? This is how the motherboard looks like. I can't see any place that fits. SATA optical conn is marked with red box Does not look like there is a SATA port on the motherboard. Documentation here: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/...

Re: Moving a CentOS 7 HDD from HP DL160 to HP DL360p
The disk was part of a single volume RAID array on a HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller. So perhaps it is not exactly a "plain disk". But you said in the first post that it would boot on a machine with a plain SATA controller, which would suggest that it might be. There is a SATA controller,...

Re: Inkscape in centos8 package manager
I built it from scratch. This is not for the faint of heart. The list of dependencies is very long, and many of these were installed previously with other software so will not be reflected in the notes. (See the final list of linked libraries at the bottom.) You will probably have to "dnf" more pack...

Re: Moving a CentOS 7 HDD from HP DL160 to HP DL360p
Was the disk part of a single volume RAID array or was the controller passing it through just like a normal disk? If the former there could be "stuff" on the disk unrelated to the usual file system structure which may keep it from ever working as is with the different RAID controller. I'm thinking t...

Re: Imaged to 2nd disk, login fails on new one
Edited the grub.cfg file so that those sda3 entries showed rescue or kernel number, which helped. Reboot, when it gets to grub (from the MBR on sdb) select the most recent sda3 kernel, it comes up normally. Once there did: grub2-mkconfig --output=/boot/grub2/grub.cfg To set up its boot.cfg so that g...
