Re: Installer won't assign a boot partition

Are those all regular partitions? If so no more are available. I would boot a live CD or DVD with some distro (it hardly matters which) and use GParted to add the partition(s). Then do the install. While you could probably figure out some way to do it from within the installer doing it with GParted ...

Re: module configed, but not compiled with rpmbuild

Try following the instructions here:

Off the top of my head I'm betting you didn't do a "make install", so it isn't under /lib/modules, and modprobe cannot find it.

Avoiding the missing driver landmines before installing CentOS 8

CentOS 8 (CO8) has dropped support for many older storage controllers. When one attempts to install CO8 on one of these systems the installer will eventually declare that it cannot find any storage devices. Many of these drivers are provided by ElRepo. Ideally one would figure out which driver(s) ar...

Re: Generate complete list of kernel supported devices?

Bump? Either of these would suffice: 1. A method to scan the source tree for a kernel, using its CentOS provided .config, to list drivers which will be builtin and something corresponding to the modules.alias "alias" lines. 2. A method to probe a running kernel to reveal what drivers are built into ...

Re: Generate complete list of kernel supported devices?

Modules are under control now. Not so for drivers built into the kernel. For instance these devices: 00:1A.0 8086:3B3C ehci-pci(builtin) "5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Host Controller" 00:1C.0 8086:3B42 pcieport(builtin) "5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 1" 00:1C.2 808...

Re: Generate complete list of kernel supported devices?

modinfo? Oh, I see, most of them have a line like: alias: pci:v00008086d00003B25sv*sd*bc*sc*i* which has the PCI ID encoded in it. And it works even for drivers which have no corresponding device on the corresponding machine, as in modinfo megaraid_sas on the CentOS 8 machine, which has no RAID card...

Generate complete list of kernel supported devices?

I am returning to the problem of figuring out a way to generate a complete list of PCI IDs that a particular CentOS kernel supports. Because, as far as I can tell, neither RedHat nor CentOS has such a thing. (RedHat has for each release a human readable, but not easily parsed list of things they no ...

system libraries already built with -pg?

A program from the NCBI called "blast_formatter" runs a trivial test case on my CentOS 8 system in slightly over 1s. On the developer's test system is is ten times faster. I built a copy from source with "-pg" and then ran it, but gprof shows only a fraction of the elapsed time. Presumably it is act...

Re: cannot find repositories for several packages

I'd like to install several packages, without having to resort to install from source, such as: bzr qt-devel qtwebkit-devel Using dnf an error message is displayed such as: Error: Unable to find a match: bzr It seems that I should enable another repository. Which one and how? There's source, and th...

Re: Where can I find the list of ISO of CentOS 8 that was previously released?

That version of the kernel is out of date and has unfixed security bugs. What is the problem that you have with newer kernels? There is a program that will not worked to the newer kernel. The program is called "Evemu". This thing worked in CentOS 8 with kernel 147.3.1. Given the description here: h...
