Re: How can I change an interface name ?

Hello,

Thanks, that worked very well. I was able to change the interface names by doing what you said.

Re: How to disable CentOS firewall?

Hello Alan / Ned, I reinstalled "iptables", but it didn't make any difference. However, I believe I understand the problem now, after having read the documentation you referred to. In fact, there is no problem. To enable or disable the firewall, you apparently do this with the GUI, which you invoke ...

Re: How to disable CentOS firewall?

Hello Alan, This is precisely what happens in my case : 1. The very first time that I try to check on the firewall status after having just rebooted one of my machines, using the "service iptables status" command, I get the following result : [quote]Table: nat Chain PREROUTING (policy ACCEPT) num ta...

Re: How to disable CentOS firewall?

Hello Alan, I did exactly as you said, but it doesn't seem to work. I executed the "chkconfig --add iptables" command to recreate the symbolic links. Despite that, the firewall remains disabled, even if I execute the "service iptables start" command. Any ideas ? Does it work with your configuration ...

Re: How to disable CentOS firewall?

Hello Alan, It doesn't matter too much about ftp. I just found out I can easily use "sftp" instead, which works just as well. There's also "scp", of course, which is even better. But I guess I'm deviating here. My initial problem was how to tell if the firewall is enabled or not. Apparently, the fir...

Re: Can a CentOS version 4 package be installed on a CentOS 5 platform ?

Hello Alan, The installation of libXp using "yum install libXp" did the trick, thanks, although I had to first : - install "createrepo" - copy all the packages from my installation CD to a directory on my hard disk - create the "yum" repository using "createrepo" After installing libXp using "yum", ...

Re: How to disable CentOS firewall?

Hello Alan, The installation of telnet using "yum install telnet-server" did the trick, thanks. However, I can't connect to another machine using telnet under "root". Is that normal ? (Telnet connection under a user other than root work very well.) The other problem is with ftp. If I try and ftp to ...

Re: Can a CentOS version 4 package be installed on a CentOS 5 platform ?

Unfortunately, I don't have much experience in producing binaries from source code (apart from the occasional "make" command), and even less in adapting source code to different platforms. What you're suggesting is a bit too ambitious for me.

Can a CentOS version 4 package be installed on a CentOS 5 pl

I'm trying to install a certain shared library object, which is now deprecated and only exists in certain packages in the CentOS version 4 (or older) distribution, but not in version 5. Can one of those version 4 packages be installed on my CentOS version 5 platform ? The library object in question ...
