Re: Where is the USB update for Centos 4.2

Except people are reporting exactly the same problem with V5 let alone 4.6 albeit not in the same quantity. But centos is supposed to the an "enterprise" linux - which is why it was of interest in the first place. So "deprecated" or not V4.2 is in use. That is the whole point. We neither need nor wa...

Re: Root logins are not allowed

Thanks pj

but I consider anyone allowing automatic updates to an operating system via the internet
to be "mentally challenged" No mattter how many of them there are,
so "yum" is out of the question even if our machines were
networked (which they aren't)

Re: Epson printer on USB port not working

Gerold I have no intention of adding more hardware to a $3000 computer system just to make linux work properly. Communicating with peripherals is THE primary function of any OS. If linux can't do that 100% reliably in all cases then it is worse than useless. All the things you suggest have now been ...

Re: Root logins are not allowed

I've had no trouble reading the DVD's nor any fault messages reported during installation
I can only suspect the login problem was "one of those things" and hope thats all there is to it.

Re: Epson printer on USB port not working

Oh I see what you're trying to say now gerold. No I deliberately placed the printer information in the subject line so that it can be located by others having similar trouble - and started a thread specifically for the printer issue should it turn out to be different to the memory stick issue. Since...

Re: Root logins are not allowed

I've booted from the DVD and tried to manually install a user with adduser and checked the user appeared in /etc/group ok It wouldnt log that in either - I've had to re-install this m...

Re: Epson printer on USB port not working

Thanks Bruce but no - this is clearly an issue with linux not working.

Searching google shows many people with USB problems and even some with
Centos V5 - it isnt related to dual booting.

Where is the USB update for Centos 4.2

It seems clear from reading these forums that USB support on Centos is very poor. V4.2 in particular simply doesnt seem to work for many people. Is there an update or upgrade RPM and if so where? or is anyone working on one? Does anyone know why this may be or is anyone looking into it? I have 2 USB...
