Do you need to install the RAID drivers from the HP PSP pack? We run CentOS on HP Proliant servers and it generally seems to be fine once it's installed.
I believe we do install those drivers but I don't know whether that's during the OS installation or afterwards.

Question regarding conman folder in /var/log

Yes.
Or, at least, it's on every CentOS machine that I've looked at. And it's empty on all of them.

Re: Firefox/Xulrunner conflicts on updates.
BTW, I think I may finally have resolved this: at the weekend even yum refused to update complaining about xulrunner being incompatible with Firefox versions before 3.6. Which I thought was a bit strange as I have 3.6.11 installed. I then discovered that yum thought I have _nine_ different versions ...

Re: Lock screen stopped working?
Yeah, I noticed that it was working at home last night, so perhaps it is just broken until you reboot again; that machine has been rebooted since the update, the other one hasn't.

Re: FreeBSD to CentOS and "Advanced format" disks - please help
Yeah, if it's partitioned wrong then pretty much every access will be misaligned.
Otherwise, use 4k blocks for the filesystem if it supports that option; if it's partitioned to start on a 4k boundary and it uses 4k blocks, you should get the best possible performance out of the system.

Re: Fglrx is toast on latest kernel?
Fortunately Ubuntu has a fix, so if anyone else uses fglrx you'll need to manually edit the source until ATI release a new version: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/642518/comments/14 You'll need to extract the relevant part of the Ubuntu patch and apply it to kcl_ioctl...

Re: Lock screen stopped working?
Yeah, my home system is broken now: the only updates it received were the bzip libs and new kernel and I verified that it was working before I did the update. $ gnome-screensaver-command lock gnome-screensaver-Message: Screensaver is not running! $ gnome-screensaver $ gnome-screensaver-command --loc...

Re: Fglrx is toast on latest kernel?
Ah, yes, fglrx is indeed completely broken by this kernel fix:

A method which wasn't previously marked as GPL is now marked as GPL so fglrx can't compile.
