Re: CentOS 7 Black Screen on Install

Do you have more than one monitor? I got black screen (although with AlmaLinux 9 installer) on NVidia + two displays. Physically disconnected the second monitor and then got install through.

Re: Issues with starting default network due to being in use by bridge

When host routes between subnets, the traffic goes through netfilter. Therefore, firewall must allow the traffic. However, when traffic is bridged, it is not filtered by the host at all; no firewall. (There is a way to explicitly enable the filtering for bridged traffic, but you would know if you ha...

Unfortunately that did not change the outcome
That in itself does not. It just affects what is pushed into /etc/subuid and /etc/subgid
Edit those files (and at least start new session).

Re: don't want to get reply

Online 'man hping3' says that option -d (--data) is used to set how large packets are used, but does not tell what the extra bytes have. How are you supposed to differentiate such TCP packets from legitimate TCP packets? In any case, there is no iptables . The kernels in CentOS Stream 8 and 9 do hav...

Re: Issues with starting default network due to being in use by bridge

If you have a managed network switch, then it has IP address that you can connect to in order to manage it. Unmanaged switch does not have IP address. A bridge is a network switch. You have created (correctly) the br0 that is connected to other (physical) switch with bonded links. Your host server h...

Re: User Namespaces

I have touched namespaces only for podman, which has to map [ug]ids in container into "safe" range on host. For that I did set the user.max_user_namespaces and added/updated SUB_GID_MIN and SUB_UID_MIN in the /etc/login.defs: # Ansible tasks - name: Add user namespaces sysctl: name: user.max_user_na...

Re: CVE-2019-8912

After I removed the old kernel, vulnerability cleared. :D If the old kernel had no vulnerability (according to Red Hat), then your "vulnerability detection tool" does not actually detect vulnerabilities, but reports false positives based on some unreliable trivia. That makes one ask: how many true ...

Re: error in named.service failed

I have rarely found the information from the journalctl and systemctl commands useful when dealing with this type of issue. That ought to be about formatting and filtering. Those commands get data from systemd-journal.service. The rsyslog.service, which writes files like the /var/log/messages, seem...

Re: older version of zstd for Centos 8 Stream

Nominally. Red Hat backports fixes and features into the version that they maintain. See https://access.redhat.com/solutions/57665 An example: The kernel of RHEL 7 is based on upstream version 3.10. Upstream kernel 3.10 did exist shortly around 2013-2014. Red Hat will release (critical) fixes to RHE...

Re: older version of zstd for Centos 8 Stream

EL7 does not have zstd. EPEL 7 has. EL8 does have zstd in appstream. EL9 does have zstd in baseos. One of the EPEL rules is that it does not replace what EL has. That is why EPEL does not have zstd for 8 and 9. Could something break if you replace packages with your own? Sure, but you can keep the p...
