Re: upgrade security patches for centos 7

yum update CentOS does not tag packages with security, etc metadata. Therefore, it is not possible to get "only security patched" subset. The yum update installs available updates for already installed packages. If there are many, then you haven't done that in a while. EL8 is a "totally unrelated" ...

Re: SSH times out after I installed "Server with GUI" on a CentOS 8 stream VM

The 'networkmanager-config-server' adds only one file: # grep ^[^#] /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/00-server.conf [main] no-auto-default=* ignore-carrier=* If a default NetworkManager.conf is provided by your distribution's packages, you should not modify it, since your changes may get overwritten b...

Re: SSH times out after I installed "Server with GUI" on a CentOS 8 stream VM

This adds a NetworkManager configuration file to make it behave more like the old "network" service. In particular, it stops NetworkManager from automatically running DHCP on unconfigured ethernet devices, and allows connections with static IP addresses to be brought up even on ethernet devices wit...

Re: not able to coonect oracle database of linux gnome boxes

I don't know oracle, but other (sql) services have in their default configuration that they do not listen nor accept connections from outside; only from localhost. You can probably connect from the CentOS 7 where you run the db service. Even if service listens for and allows connections from outside...

Re: SSH times out after I installed "Server with GUI" on a CentOS 8 stream VM

That's interesting.
Can you do:

Code: Select all

nmcli c s
nmcli -f connection c s name-of-troublesome-connection
The "connection.autoconnect" is of special interest.

Re: Network bridge

The question was, do you see traffic from/to B when you listen on br0 of A?

If neither B sees anything on "wire" nor A sees anything from B on "wire", then I would suspect the wire, which is the vswitch.

I don't know gcloud. Does it provide a firewall? If yes, does it allow ssh?
Can you ssh in before you install environment group "Server with GUI" and tigervnc?
Can you ssh in before restart?

Re: Network bridge

sudo nmcli con mod br0 bridge.stp off bridge.forward-delay 0 Yes, If I run tcpdump on eth1 on VM A, I see normal traffic, when I run it on eth0 of VM B, I see nothing. [VM A]# tcpdump -vv -nn -i br0 [VM B]$ ping -c 1 forums.centos.org The A would not detect ARP, DNS query, nor ICMP that B has to do...

Re: Network bridge

stp off forward-delay 0 for br0 could affect how bridge behaves. If MAC has been seen, then ARP goes through. Can you run tcpdump on both VMs? (That is my usual debug tool; listen in many points while generating traffic. nmap is another.) How much packets does B see, and where do they originate from...
