Re: network.service is not a native service, then what is the CORRECT command?

what is the correct in CentOS 8 ? systemctl enable network.service The systemd-sysv-install script is called by "systemctl enable/disable" when the given unit is a SysV init.d script. It needs to call the distribution's mechanism for enabling/disabling those, such as chkconfig, update-rc.d, or simi...

Re: Unable to ping any IP address from CentOS 8 VPS

Ok, name resolution is functional as is access to 8.8.8.8. ipcalc -n -b -p x.97.169.30 255.255.240.0 PREFIX=20 BROADCAST=x.97.175.255 NETWORK=x.97.160.0 Your machine A is in subnet x.97.160.0/20. Its DNS servers x.97.189.y are not in the same subnet. Therefore, routing between those two subnets (and...

Maybe not an alternative, but GLIBCXX_3.4.20+21 are in CentOS 8.
The "program" sounds like a "binary blob" compiled in foreign platform, like Ubuntu. Perhaps a container with necessary bits for the program?

Re: Failed to restart network.service: Unit not found.

how we can check if the network interface is OK before of restart ? There are two parts: * Configuration used by services is stored in files. It must be in proper syntax that the service reads. There were GUI/TUI tools, where you set/select options and the tool writes files in correct syntax. * Log...

Re: Converting from Scientific Linux to Cent OS

In a perfect world an in-situ upgrade would be desirable Yes, but in this world the best we can do is an install from scratch in minutes, if we are prepared for it. How do I prepare? * I have left unallocated space on disk for "the next / ", if I want to keep the current OS details as backup * User...

Re: NetworkManager.service vs network.service

Each network connection (aka interface) has to be configured. Both of these services do that. At most one service can configure one interface. Services are definitely mutually exclusive per interface. Is it possible that some interfaces are managed with one service and the rest with other service? T...

Re: interface enp2s0: ERROR - yes, CentOS 8.4.2105

The error message looks incomplete: Given IPv6 default gateway 'fe80::1' is link-local, but no scope or > "or" what? The reason why the output is "chopped" is because systemctl uses pager , less and less allows you to "scroll horizontally". In order to see whole lines you can use: systemctl --no-pag...

Re: is possible recovery SERVER ACCESS with network.service OFF ?

A service like (deprecated, not installed by default) network.service or NetworkManager.service is started by systemd during boot. When the service starts, it reads configuration from files and sets up network accordingly -- most likely by calling tools like ip . The 'ip' commands do not modify any ...

Re: Installing MATE from source

CentOS 8 has unicode-ucd-11.0.0-1.el8 in AppStream. There does not seem to be unicode-ucd-han. You can "install" srpms: rpm -i gucharmap-12.0.1-1.fc30.src.rpm That will probably place a tarball into rpmbuild/SOURCES/ and the spec-file into rpmbuild/SPECS/ Dependencies are usually defined in the spec...

Re: NIC forwarding question

No. The thing that drops packets is Strict Reverse Path Forwarding filter See https://access.redhat.com/solutions/53031 It also says: to configure a system to function with rp_filter in strict mode is to set up policy based routing and has link to https://access.redhat.com/solutions/19596 https://si...
