Re: What virtualization software do you use?

I've found that KVM+virt-manager works quite well for me, but I usually use Xubuntu or Ubuntu Server on my VM hosts due to its built-in ZFS support. CentOS works quite well for guests, with the disk images on ZFS zvols. My home Asterisk box also runs CentOS 7 on bare metal; telephony hardware doesn'...

Re: Kernel Issues: LSI SAS3080x (SAS1068) HBA On CentOS 7

Unfortunately, mptsas is deprecated in 7.x. You can pretty well count on the driver being removed completely in 8.x. I ran into the driver deprecation/removal issue this spring as well, working at a client. We were going to use an old Dell server with a PERC/4e RAID controller as a development box, ...

Re: CentOS auto restart

There's also a possibility that this is a problem with the power supply. I've experienced random reboots from bad PSUs before. This is especially likely with consumer-grade power supplies that often have cheap capacitors which eventually fail and deliver severe ripple in their DC outputs.

A better way to deal with the weak-updates mess

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread... After I (inevitably!) got bitten by an update throwing a new version of weak-modules on the system, I decided to take a peek at what DKMS was doing. As it turns out, there's an option called NO_WEAK_MODULES that can be set. Unfortunately, it can NOT be set a...

Re: ZFS in Centos 7

Fortunately, that's not the case for me; though I ran the ELRepo mainline kernel for a while when I was getting bitten by Bug 9860, I never needed to run any of their modules. The weak-updates issue should really be considered a misfeature of DKMS. What it needs is to default to always rebuilding mo...

Re: ZFS in Centos 7

I've been using it at home for my NAS, and at work as storage for virtual machines, and it has worked quite well. However, if you use the repository from zfsonlinux.org, which depends on DKMS (or, for that matter, if you use anything that depends on DKMS), you should do this as root: mv /usr/sbin/we...

Re: Bug 9860 - any hope for a fix?

Followup: the just-released 3.10.0-327.10.1 kernel has a fix for this problem. Sorry if I seemed impatient, but it was getting worrisome.

Re: RAID controller support

Note that SATA drives will work fine on SAS controllers. If you would prefer to use software RAID (such as MD-RAID or ZFS), you would want one that is merely an HBA (host bus adapter) rather than a hardware RAID controller. An LSI 9211-8i would be a good choice for such an application, though it's n...

Bug 9860 - any hope for a fix?

This problem needs some discussion, and I didn't want to clutter the bug report with it. I have a system affected by Bug 9860 , and thus won't boot any released 3.10.0-327 kernel. It has been almost two months now since this bug has surfaced, and there is still no trace of a fix being available to t...

That's in the control-center-extra package.
