Interesting... I will try removing the battery ro reset the BIOS.
And after that, I think I will pack up the system and send it to the folks I bought it from for repair...
Thanks

Re: BIOS errors during boot following Centos 5 install
I am not into video games, so I don't know what you are talking about - sorry. The machine was originally configured for scientific computing and visualization. Perhaps the people from whom I bought the computer from overclocked the thing. If you suspect this is part of the problem, how do I FIX it?...

Re: When/Why to upgrade from 4.5 to 5.x
Thank you both very much. Should I choose to upgrade, how much effort is typically involved? The easiest on the scale would be to upgrade via a yum command line - the most difficult would be to back up all my personal data, downloaded software, etc before doing a complete reinstall from scratch. Per...

When/Why to upgrade from 4.5 to 5.x
What are the pros/cons of upgrading from Centos 4.5 to 5.0? My understanding from reading a number of posting is that it is not just a matter of "being current" - there are issues of compatibility with the motherboard, etc.. Could someone please point me to a discussion or site that would help me to...

Re: Firefox crash - recommend kernel upgrade?
It appears that the Java Virtual Machine may be the responsible party. I found a number of error logs in my home directory produced at the time of each crash. I have forwarded this on to Sun. I would still like to know whether it is best to upgrade - how does one know if one's architecture is best f...

Re: Firefox crash - recommend kernel upgrade?
By the way, I just learned that /dev/snd/controlC0 refers to an audio device. I wanted to mention that the applets that cause the crash do not (to my knowledge) produce any sound. Could this refer to a warning beep or something? In which case, where would I look for additional clues concerning the n...

Firefox crash - recommend kernel upgrade?
Hello, Since updating my Nvidia driver, Firefox 2.0.0.5 crashes when I try to run applets that rely on JOGL (SUN's Java for OpenGL). In my system log file, I find the following: Oct 16 11:50:09 localhost kernel: ioctl32(firefox-bin:5750): Unknown cmd fd(50) cmd(80045500){00} arg(ffffc590) on /dev/sn...
