Re: Grub help

Do you get the GRUB screen loading or does nothing happen at all? I've had an interesting problem with grub myself when booting from /dev/md0, and it was caused by my bios displaying the disks to the bootloader in a different order when I booted from the DVDROM than when I boot normally. Anaconda th...

tar seems to have reported archiving files but will not retr

Hi, I've used tar to archive a machine to a disk archive on another machine prior to rebuilding the first one. I've kept the output from my tar -czvf etc. command and it has about 400000 lines on it, but when I do tar -tzvf, it only lists about 300000 lines, so I seem to be missing about 100000 file...

Re: Xorg.conf and integrated Intel GPU in Dell laptops

Hi, I've a similar problem since I graded to x86_64. I've fixed it, but not very elegantly. I can't find any suitable drivers, so I've hand edited xorg.conf to force it to use the VESA driver. That at least get's X up and running... The entry in my file is like this: Section "Device" Identifier "Vid...

Re: Anyone successfully got Buffalo Wireless PCI card to work with Centos 4 x86_64?

Thanks. I think I've already tried this one, but I've downloaded it again, and tried again. I get the following from ndiswrapper -l bcmwl5 : driver installed and since it's missing the "hardware present" message, I am presuming it's not the right driver (although it seems that it should be). The rel...

Anyone successfully got Buffalo Wireless PCI card to work wi

Hi, I've been trying to find a suitable driver to use with ndiswrapper in order use my wireless PCI card. It's a Buffalo 54G/125 type, with a Broadcom 4306 chipset. I can't find any 64bit drivers for this card anywhere, and because I've got the 64bit kernel, the ndiswrapper can't load the 32 bit dri...

Re: Installing oracle10g on centos 4.3 i86_64

I've found an article here: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1101776􌿐 This recommends installing glibc-devel.i386, which has got me past this error. However, I've got stuck at the next stage when it tries to clone a database. I'm now getting a message ORA-12547: TNS lost...

Installing oracle10g on centos 4.3 i86_64

Hi, I've downloaded the latest oracle linux i86_64 database package, and I'm trying to install it on centos 4.3 i86_64 but it's complaining at the make stage that it can't find crt1.o. I've checked on the machine, and it has crt1.o in /usr/lib64. It seems oracle is trying to link something for a 32 ...

Very odd (probably) Samba problem

Hi, I've just finished installing the CentOS 4.3 i86_64 version on a 2xOpteron system. I've configured Samba, and tried connecting into it from a windows PC. While transferring files to or from the CentOS disk, the whole system seems to keep "pausing", stopping any processes that want the disk or ne...

Re: i86_64 smp raid1 starts grub but will get no further.

I've figured out what is going on! Linux and the bios were disagreeing on the order of the drives in my system. I have a software raid card which has two ide drives on it. The other two are connected to the mobo ide ports. The BIOS was booting the disk connected to the mobo port, but Linux was seein...

Re: i86_64 smp raid1 starts grub but will get no further.

Thanks for that. I've tried setting up grub several times in different ways, but every time it just stops at the grub prompt when I boot. When anaconda installs the grub.conf, it is setting root to be (hd2,0) which is odd since it's hda and hdb which are the mirrored boot disks. If I run the grub co...
