Re: Issues with burning the images...

I meant to say, be sure to burn the iso file as an image. Not as a data file.

Sorry for the confusion.

Issues with burning the images...

I really hate to ask, but are you burning the DVD as an image file, and not as a data file?

IOW, you should end up with a DVD with several files and directories. And not just one big iso file.

Maybe this can help: https://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=46

How to configure hdparm?

However I would like to do this automatically at boot.

One way would be to put the hdparm command in /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Re: howto add my own app to the Applications menu?

You're welcome. Not sure about KDE.

Maybe a search for editing kde menus would turn up some info?

howto add my own app to the Applications menu?

If you have alacarte installed, you should be able to right-click over Applications, and then select Edit Menus.

You may want to look into rebuilding a SRPM.

Re: Dual boot CentOS 5 and 6

Edit: cniggeler, please ignore this post. Looks like you nailed it regarding CentOS-5 GRUB not working with ext4. Anyway, this is what I've been able to come up with so far: First, in your CentOS-5 grub.conf, I would change the entry to:
title CentOS 6 SIX root (hd1,4) chainloader +1 [...

Dual boot CentOS 5 and 6

CentOS-6 uses legacy GRUB, not GRUB-2. I'm not having a problem chainloading CentOS-6 from CentOS-5 GRUB. (32 bit system using PATA hard drives.) Here is a partial diagram of my main multiboot system:
/dev/hda <--- CentOS-5.8 GRUB Bootloader in MBR /dev/hda1 <--- Win-XP /dev/hda2 <--- "/myfat...

Rpmbuild works differently on Centos 6

On my CentOS-6 system, the directory 'BUILDROOT' was automatically created by something I rebuilt. I have this:
[username@sony rpmbuild]$ ls -al total 32 drwxr-xr-x 8 username username 4096 Jan 27 10:41 . drwxr-xr-x 5 username username 4096 Feb 5 08:21 .. drwxr-xr-x 2 username username 4096 F...
