Re: Problems rebooting server

Should be able to set it to boot up in Init Runlevel 3, which is a CLI interface with GUI available (via "startx").

Unfortunately I do not know off-hand how to set it to boot to different Runlevels off the top of my head.

Re: May be moving to CentOS at work

Installed CentOS 7 last night and find it interesting. While some of my programs are not available in binary form for CentOS, I'll need to look at installing from source code (Pithos, Variety). Some are available, such as the ownCloud client which is good. Also, Files looks like it is still able to ...

Re: May be moving to CentOS at work

Thanks! I'll check those out.

I think most of my questions will be answered with the good-'ol "poking around" (also known as "trial-and-error" ;) ) but this will give me a starting point.

Re: Greetings CentOS community!

Hi!

I haven't tried Arch, but I've heard a lot of good things about it. 8-)

I primarily stick to "the big 3" (Ubuntu, Fedora and openSUSE), but am trying to get into CentOS since work is possibly migrating to it for the external web servers (which I am the primary maintainer).

May be moving to CentOS at work

Hey all! :D It's been years since I have been on these forums! It is looking like at work we may be moving our webserver from FreeBSD to CentOS so I am looking to install CentOS on my personal laptop (coming from Fedora/Ubuntu/openSUSE ... whatever catches my fancy at the time, currently Fedora). Th...

Re: Log into Centos GUI (gnome) as root

If you need to open Nautilus as Root then you can log into root in a terminal and then run nautilus. A window will open using the root's credentials. su # enter root's password nautilus # my coding may be rusty, I haven't used CentOS in a while. Just about any application can be run like this, once ...

Re: CentOS on desktops

[quote]Only issue with the Latitude D400 CentOS 5.2 install is the wireless card -- as mentioned in the Network support forum. Video, wired network, sound -- everything else worked "out of the box." Broadcom 4309 WiFi card works with the but it's "unstable" -- which means it speed varies wildly. I'v...

Re: When will CentOS 5.3 be out?

Is there an RSS feed or something that will let us know when 5.3 is out other than coming to the CentOS site every day?

Re: Revised: HTTP install not working

I had that same double-slash issue too when I was trying to Netinstall.

Since I do not have a DVD drive for my Laptop, would it work with a USB pen drive? I have an 8 GB pen drive I would put the image onto.

Re: CentOS on desktops

How is CentOS's hardware detection on newer (2004+) hardware or laptops?

I'm trying to get an idea of how much time/effort it is going to take to switch from Fedora to CentOS (been out of the Red Hat distro/remix loop for some time).
