Live ISO w/o desktop?

Is there a Live ISO option for centos7 that enables me to start just a command line session (with full networking inc ssh)? Tried LiveGnome and, whilst it boots, its rather heavy for the Acer Aspire I'm running it on.

centos7 suitable for small self-maintaining server?

Hi. I want to deploy a small public-facing REST server within a SOHO environment with sufficient security to prevent compromise of the local machines but without maintenance and configuration of the server becoming a lifetime's work. Is Centos7 suitable for this use or should I be looking at a speci...

LiveCD kernel panic

I'm getting Kernel panics attempting to boot both the 6.5 LiveCD and LiveDVD on a Supermicro x10sl7 mobo with Haswell Xeon installed, screen capture attached.

The normal install works just fine.

Any workarounds?

Re: Need rhel compatable linux for s390 architecture with glibc > 2.4

They use RHEL, which was why I was using centos.

Am I correct in thinking that centos for s390 has been abandoned for some reason?

Need rhel compatable linux for s390 architecture with glibc

Hi. For quite some time now I've been happily using Centos 4 for IBM s390 mainframe architecture. However one of my prebuilt apps has been upgraded to require glibc 2.4+. IIUC, upgrading glibc is a very nontrivial proposition but there does not appear to be a Centos 5 or 6 release for this architect...

Re: cifs timeout on mount

When I try that smbclient -L from a machine on the same LAN as the Windows machine, even using the external address, it works. Does that suggest there's a config problem with my s390 machine? I can ping the target machine ok and rsync in works, so the basics are there. How can I check that the reque...

cifs timeout on mount

I'm trying to establish a connection between my s390 system and a remote windows system but am getting: # mount -a mount error 110 = Connection timed out I've added to my fstab the entry: //xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/put06-pw /ztpf/windows-nfs/put06-pw/ cifs rw,username=xxx, password=xxx, uid=root, gid=root 0 0 A...

Re: Windows shares not reliable

Yes, I saw that. I can't risk a kernel upgrade right now though. I wonder though if I can get this to work for me at all. Here's the messages log Feb 28 21:29:40 zCentos kernel: CIFS: Unknown mount option prefixpath Feb 28 21:29:40 zCentos kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 Feb 2...

Re: Windows shares not reliable

Looks like I've got v 1.45

Is it something I can upgrade using yum? A search suggests not.
