Re: CentOS 4.2, Winbindd and Crontab

Have you updated your /etc/nsswitch.conf file to include the winbind module?

Google for winbind and nsswitch for examples.

Re: Parsing the /var/log/messages for an ip and display that ?

Based on the wording of your message, you have me a little concerned. When you see this message come in your are then going to "auto ban" the IP. What do you mean by this? The reason I ask, is because you "SHOULD" be blocking/dropping all packets by default and allowing ONLY what you need though. Yo...

Re: Squidguard is not working...

"Still not working properly" does not give any useful information at all. How is it "not working"? What is it doing? What errors are you getting? Is it not redirecting? It it not running at all? Can you connect to it at all? As maxut said, the log files are your friends. Read them every single time ...

clmilter.sock missing help

I don't run this, but a quick google search has yeielded good information. Do you have clamd and clam-milter running? A "sock" file is a "socket" that is used to directly access the ClamAV program. The clamAV program should create and control that socket. In order for it to do that is has to be runn...

Re: high security advice

OK, based on the problems you have seen "mysql unable to function after the hack", and the fact that you said you are running "phpmyadmin" I am going to guess this is your problem. Maybe an old version of phpmyadmin? Perhapse you don't have a "strong" username/password combination and someone is gue...

Re: Perl Doesn't Execute (newbie)

Because no other directories but cgi-bin are allowed to exec code, look in your /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file for the line: Under this line is all the options that are allowed in this directory.... Notice there is no Options ExecCGI listed under here... You don't want it to be, you don't want to a...

My web page sometimes work in CentOS....

Need more details. What error or page do you get when you "don't get the page"? What do the logs say, check the log files in /var/log/httpd/* - Are there errors, does it show it trying to pull the correct pages? Where are you putting these web pages? In the /var/www/html directory or some place else?

Re: Adding swap to existing one?

Back in the day, swap space should be the same size (or a little larger) then RAM size. The reason for this (and still is on Solaris at least) because if the system crashes it writes ram to swap. You can use this image for crash debugging. I am not 100% sure if Linux does this or not (a quick google...

Re: Apache low performance problem. Need help quickly!

What does this mean "extremely supplyed"? Are these sites straight HTML or CGI? If they are CGI I am going to guess there is some programming error in the code that is causing problems? Did you make any changes to the stock httpd.conf configuration file? Have you checked /var/log/httpd/error_log and...

I cant start mysql ... help HELPPPP

Without knowing the exact error it is pretty much impossible to tell you what the problem is. Please check the following log files after you get the failure:

/var/log/mysqld.log
/var/log/messages

I am going to guess one of these files will tell you exactly what the problem is.
