Re: how to configure postfix
I'd start here: http://www.postfix.org/docs.html. You might all get "The Book of Postfix" by Ralf Hildebrandt and Patrick Koetter. On centos you can do a 'yum install postfix system-switch-mail' then run 'system-switch-mail' and choose Postfix as your MTA, no need to compile. CentOS also has Dovecot...

Re: Symantec Veritas BackupExec Remote Linux Agent?
If you find and answer to this please post it here as I'm interested in backing up some Centos systems with Veritas. In the past I've had no success. How did you install and was it straight forward? In the past I've had to change the release file to get it to "think" it was on a RHEL box. Regards, fj

Time Problem
The previous post is correct. You need to recompile the kernel to fix this. I have in the past provided kernels for CentOS 4 but I've been busier than usual and haven't been keeping the site updated. I just uploaded a kernel to you can d/l and try. Grab it here: http://berdine.jonesns.net/kernel-2.6...

Re: How to? Apache, Mysql autorun
You can type "chkconfig --list | grep 3:on" to see which services start on boot. You can have Apache start on boot by typing "chkconfig httpd on". The same can be done for any other service you need to start. You probably need to do a "yum install mysql-server" to install the mysql server. Do a "rpm...

Re: postfix issues
You must have some other issue going on. I've never had to restart Postfix on any of my boxen. It's always been rock solid. I ran into an issue where Cyrus SASL would lock up once in a while when someone attacked my POP3 server. I've configured NAGIOS to to do an smtp auth login test and if it fails...

Possible to have mail (postfix) without system user accounts
Absolutely possible. I use Postfix Admin to manage the users with a MySQL database, and Dovecot for the POP3/IMAP. Take a look at this link and it'll give you enough info to get it going. http://bliki.rimuhosting.com/space/knowledgebase/linux/mail/postfixadmin+on+debian+sarge Postfix 2.3 includes su...
